If it seems weird WQAD-TV should furnish a syndicated feature to WQPT-TV, the area's public broadcasting service facility, consider this: KLJB-TV-Channel 18, the Davenport independent station, will regularly carry programming originally created for cable pay tv on Sept.

20 at 7 p.m. The feature's called "The Cox Cable and HBOCinemax Knock-but Fall Previews and will include an hour of Tina Turner, 15 minutes of Max Headroom and a program by Earl Perkins and Friends. Most People CLASSIFIED ADS As An Up-To-Date Directory of Products and Services! feel about all this? She's sad, of course, over hanging up the mirror (she's actually going to have it framed and put up on a wall in her home) but she's still enthused over the potential of TV as a tool to deal with the issues and needs of young people. She's looking forward to what comes next. "It's wonderful to see how caring the people here are over the situation," she says.

"The decision to put all our energies into new directions wasn't made lightly. It took a long time and I was made aware of it three weeks ahead of the general announcement. Still, when I heard the Magic Mirror music for the last time, I couldn't hold back the tears. "They stopped taping and after I regained my composure and fixed my make-up, I returned to the set to find Wendy Dewitt, the camera operator, had put the youngsters at ease and even had them laughing, so we finished the program on a good note and had a party." Now one of her goals will be to The decision by WQAD-TV to stop producing a local version of "Romper Room and Friends" after more than a decade of doing it has raised some burning questions for the Magic Mirror on the wall. At the top of the list: Is the 1 traditional Miss Peggy Halloween party, which has attracted hundreds of tiny goblins to the Mo-' line studios annually, to be or not to be next month? ITS TO be, says Lloyd Bolk-com, director of programming and community affairs, after giving the Magic Mirror time to reflect a bit.

And, of course, Peggy Wittke, Davenport, who has hosted "Romper Room" for the last 13 years and is now on the station's roster as community affairs assistant, will be there to meet her friends. WHY DID Channel 8 discontinue a program which has provided an opportunity for the kindergarten set to participate in a TV learning experience? Particularly when it was popular enough to have children signed up for years ahead? "What we want to do," said BoLkcom, "is to develop programming to meet the needs of children in all age groups, not just those in the 4 to 7 range. The effort will take various forms and Peggy will be deeply involved in it. There will be announcements later as we work out details," What will take "Romper Room's" place on the schedule after Sept. 19 when the tape of the last show featuring Miss Peggy will be aired? "We've been airing the show at 5:30 a.m.

so we'll continue with another half-hour news instead," Balkcom said. "However, WQPT-TV, Moline, which has been picking up our "Romper" version for two airings daily will be provided with the nationally syndicated "Romper Room" production. So the program will still be available except for participation by local youngsters to fans in this area."
