Reardon was selected as the co-player of the year for "AAA" and Hammye was player of the year. Reardon shared the top honors for the big schools with iiiiiiiii 1' -y I 1 i. Hammye is also considered one of the top defensive players in the area. The Genoa star connected on 66 per cent of his shots from the floor this season. On the second team "AA" was Hammye's teammate, Jeff Shaneck, and Margaretta's junior scoring star, Eric Hansen. Jack Smith, 6-8, of Lakota was also tabbied for second team honors. Shaneck is averaging 15.1 per cent while Hansen finished at 18.5 and Smith, 16.5.

The only unanimous selection for player of the year honors was taken by Tom Kramb of South Central in the voting. Kramb is also a repeat performer from last season. This year, the 6-7 Kramb is hitting 22.9 a game. Gary Vaughn was selected as the coach of the year. Vaughn guided his Fostoria St.

VVendelin team to a 16-2 mark in the regular season mark after losing all of his regular starters from last year's 17-3 squad. Special mention honors in the voting went to Virgil Ward of Bettsville while honorable metion went to Mike Smith and Tom Koweleski of Fremont St. Joseph, Steve Shref ler of Gibsonburg, and Gary Fry of Old Fort. In "AAA" honorable mentions, Bellevue's Dan Kegerreis was listed. The selections of the teams were made by an area panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

The selections are based on regular season performances only. The all-district teams: Irv I ill junior Toledo DeVilbiss star, Terry Crosby. Reardon, who wrote the Ross record books this season with new regular season and total season scoring marks, was one of four seniors named to the top squad. Reardon has scored 422 points in 19 games so far this season to break the old total season mark of 405 set in the 1970-71 season by John Lewis. With 38 points for 17 regular season games, Reardon broke the old mark of Gail Brauchu-la set in 1955-56.

That old mark was 374 points. Crosby, only a junior, shared honors with Reardon. The DeVilbiss flash is the top scorer on the first team with an average of 24.3 while Reardon was next in line with a 22.8 effort. Crosby averaged nearly 11 rebounds per game in addition to his point production. Reardon had nine rebounds per contest.

Reardon was the Buckeye Conference's player of the year while Crosby led the Toledo City League in scoring. Joining the duo on the top squad were Frank Steele of Toledo Scott, Gary Jackson of Toledo Waite, and Brad Longberry of Findlay. The coach of the year honor was split by Jim Cox of Toledo Macomber and John Stozich of Findlay. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m.

start at Toledo Whitmer High School. The game promises to be a clash of the big men, inside and Out for both teams. The team that controls the boards will no doubt control the game. Rossford will go into the game trying to set a defense that will hopefully have the effect of "seven" men while Genoa will be going with a slightly injured Ron Hammye at the center post. Rossford's coach Joe Stalma's defensive strategy is twofold.

"We're going to try to put seven men on the floor," and later he mentioned the possibility of "stretching" his two 6-5 inside men, junior Mitch Kopystynsky and sophomore Scott Spencer. Kopystynsky is the Bulldogs' post man. He averages 16 points a game and grabs 14 rebounds per game, Stalma said. Spencer is a baseline player and averages 12 points per tiff. The Bulldogs' point man is Dennis Santus, a 5-10 senior who averages about 12 points a game and shoots about 38 per cent from the field, according to Stalma.

On the wings are senior Greg Marquette who stands 6-1 and Jeff Strzelecki, a six foot senior. Genoa last met Rossford on their home court in the 1972 season when the Comets were still a part of the Northern Lakes League, which Rossford still is. The Bulldogs prevailed. Rossford, this season, has posted a 15-5 record, having lost once to NLL foe Perrysburg and four times to Class AAA schools. Dave Hitchen, Genoa's head coach, has watched his team run through 18 straight opponents since an opening game loss to "AAA" Toledo DeVilbiss, 74-64.

In the last two seasons, the Comets are 39-2 but will have their hands full with the Bulldogs. Complicating matters for Genoa is the fact that Ron Hammye, the standout 6-10 center, may not be at full power. "He injured his hip in a scrimmage against Toledo Scott Monday," Hitchen said. "He went to a chiropractor Tuesday and will make another visit on Thursday." The trips to the doc for Hammye are precautionary Hitchen pointed out and Hammye will be starting. As for the Bulldogs, Hitchen uses "aggressive" to describe the rough and tumble team.

"They are extremely aggressive on the boards. They can afford to be a little rough because they have a deep bench. They can get a guy into foul trouble and bring another in from the bench with little drop in talent on the floor." Hitchen went on to talk about the offensive minded Bulldogs. "I think they have scored 180 points in the last two games and I don't think 18 of them have been from outside the 15-foot perimenter," Hitchen said as he talked about the inside scoring ability of Rossford. "They like to run when they can or if they get the chance.

As for running patterns, they are deliberate but it is not 'slow-down' play." The winner of the game will play the winner of the Cardinal Stritch-Tiff in Calvert game that will be played at 7:30 tonight at Toledo Whitmer High School. special mention Virgil Ward, Bettsville; Bill Knepper, New Riegel, John Seiler, Sandusky St. Mary's Honorable mention Tony Oliva, Norwalk St. Paul; Hal Wahlers, Danbury-Lakeside; Mike Smith, Tom Koweleski, Fremont St. Joseph; Steve Shreffler, Gibsonburg; Joe Moore, Monroeville; Duane Trares, Norwalk St.

They also feel that once a player is dropped from a team he has the right to renegotiate for himself instead of being waived from one club to another.

Ed Garvey, executive director of the players' association, considered the convention a success as 294 players and 70 wives attended the meetings that began Sunday. Garvey said the group's first full convention touched on "freedom issues" which brought about divergent opinions. "We are hearing from a lot of different people in these open discussions that we didn't hear from before when only the club player representatives were talking to each other." The Players' Association also described as totally inadequate benefits under the player pension fund for widows of former players and for totally disabled former players. The group contended that 10 former NFL players have died since 1970 and the highest payment to a widow has been $245 a month. The NFLPA contended that over half the widows received only $200 a month.
