These small ads are machine set, AS TO PURE MEANNESS The two meanest acts of the European war lords up-to-date iu our opinion, are, England's connivance at the neutrality of a friendly nation by permitting her merchant vessels to fly the Amer-' icari" emblem to avoid sea dangers, and Germany's similar connivance in egging on an insidious campaign against neutrality through the GermanrAmerican Alliance. Both are cases of stooping to the lowest depths in an endeavor to destroy the peace and good will of a neutral nation. PRETTY FAIR PLACE That there may be better places than Foley in which to live, may be true, "but we cannot recall them just at present. We know of no place, at pres- ent, where home grown beef, pork, vegetables, fruits and nuts can be purchased as cheaply or through so much of the year, as here. We know of no place, where the climate, taking it year in and year out is more equable, or agreeable to live in.

In this respect we-wish to point out the following on laws at Free Acres, written by Bolton Hall "for the Courier: "Our Free Acres law is simply, that everyone shall mind his own business and if he doesn't we will prevent him minding ours. We ask no one's permission to live or to act. True liberty implies equal for if I take more than my share I naturally limit somebody else's and make a beginning of restriction.

No one can deny that this simple plan has worked well so far at Free. Acres. Law is only necessary when people disagree. As Thor-eau finely says, "between lovers there are no rights and no dut- ies," that is to ay, as between themselves, it is needless for those who are in harmony to define or defend any of their actions. "We have practically no laws and have found it no more necessary to lay down laws for our officers than to make laws for our wash woman.

If any of them won't do- what we ask, we can get another. The. Initiative and Referendum and the Recall form an easy method of doing this. "Undoubtedly, one secret of the' Free Acres colonists' success lies in their minding their own business." We also wish to call attention to the following by Ellis the noted psychologist, who after years of study, says, "I have found that the best way to keep marriage a romance and make a success of wedded life, is to have Just as little law and compulsion about the relation of husband and wife as is possible." EDITOR'S SHORT QUILL As mosquitoes breed mostly in stganant or quiet water, it- is reported that ducks are- the best mosquito catchers, as they readily gobble up the mosquito pu-pea and larvae. 1 Church Supper The Baptist Ladies Auxiliary will serve supper fromV) -to 8 at the church, Tuesday evening Feb.

LET US PRINT YOUR LETTER-HEADS ENVELOPES BUSINESS CARDS STATEMENTS BILL HEADS PROGRAMMES WEDDING INVITATIONS ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC. 4 ON PUBLIC PRINTING To Senator Holmes and Repre-. sentative Thompson, Greetings; Instead of the legal rate of advertising being raised or lowered by legislative act, I believe that it should be wiped out, that the state, ounty, etc.

should get the same rate as other advertisers, no more, no less. I believe that the laws passed by the legislature, should be ep itomized into newspaper English, cast into plate form, and published in the papers of the state, having a general circulation and one year old, at their regular rate for plate matter. So many laws of a purely statutory nature are being' passed, that of themselves give no warning, that the people are; entitled, to and should be told what they are. All so-called official organs, should be wiped out, and all pa-' pers should be requested to furnish to the county and state officials, their lowest complete rate cards, the same as, to other advertisers, then all ordinary afl- vertising should be rotated a-. mong the papers of the district affect except that all notices, pertaining to elections," tax collections, assessments, 'etc.

should be published, in all papers as this is knowledge all the people are entitled to. This is but fair to the papers as all are working for the upbu'ldingpf their counties and state and this quasi news is due the peapla as a whole. I believe good readable reports of the doings of the county com-, missioners and should be published in all papers of the county, at least, once every six months.
