ATCHISON SUNDAY GLOBE Society Women's News SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 1957 PAGE 1-A As You Know Harriett and Howard Lockwood, who sailed Jan. 21 on the French liner He dc France for a Caribbean cruise, are having some real experiences The trip started out a little ominously as they had reservations for a 12-day cruise to Cuba, sailing from New Orleans on another French line, the S. Flandre. That particular cruise was cancelled and they were placed on the passenger list of the much longer cruise and bigger ship. Then, when they got to New York there was the tugboat and longshoremen strike going on and the "hip personnel had to load all-the-paraphanalia for the 780 passengers on the cruise.

Once at sea, everything went well and the Lockwoods were having a great time, becoming good friends with a very congenial and friendly Swiss couple who had made the trip many times and gay plans were ahead. Then last Tuesday night the big liner ran aground Dn the Island of Martinique. They finally got her afloat and on Wed aesday returned to Fort de France, the capital the French Island. Here it was discovered that much damage had been done to the ship ind the rest of the cruise had to be cancelled. (They were supposed to go on to Curacao, Panama and numerous other stops.) The Steamship company was then faced with problem of disposing of their 780 guests in all directions.

A cable from the Lockwoods indicated ihey, personally, would be either flying back to New York or on to Havana, Cuba where they had wanted to go in the first place. Mi's. William B. Pollock, II, (Katherine yesterday from her home in Youngstown, Ohio, to spend a week here with 'her mother and sister, Mrs. J.

M. Challiss and Peggy Purseglove. Mr. Pollock will join her here Wednesday. At the end of their visit, they will go on to Palm Springs.

Calif, and from there to Glendale. Arizona to see their daughter and family Patricia and Milovan Antich and their young son, Anthony. Later this month Lucy Challiss will be coming along from New York City to spend some time with Mrs. Challiss and Peggy. Off to Jamaica in a week or so for two weeks of gala living be the John Mizes and Ronald Ramsays.

First the Mizes will go to Del Key Beach, Florida for a visit with their son, David Arthurs and i family. Then to Miami where they will meet the Ramsays and the I William O. Buffes of Kansas City. The six of them will then fly over 1 to Montego Bay, Jamaica where they will be guests at the Round Hill Montego Bay is about 90 miles from Kingston (the capital) and that, among other cities will be included in places to sec. R. Neva, and their two charming daughters, Lynn and Lou, will be off on another flying jaunt in their Bo nanza. starting next Sunday. First all of the flying M.D.s will meet in Miami 1 will be opened to a flight of choice.

Thre will be nine flights with different schedules including stops and the length of time each can spend flitting about the different Islands. The flights svill start from Fort Lauderdale and all will fly to the Bahamas for the convention and then back to Miami. The Browns will then join a group to fly over to Cuba where they will spend several days. They will be gone two weeks. Daphne Muchnic and young son, Hank, are off for a vacation i in Wickenberg, Arizona, driving out to spend some time in the warm sunshine.

A solemn high nuptial mass uniting in marriage Miss Kathleen Ann 'iammon and Eugene Joseph Vader, was celebrated Feb. 2, at St. Catherine's Catholic church in Kansas City. The former Miss Gammon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

E. Peter Gammon, and Mr. Vader is the son of Mr. and -Mfs; Eugene Kansas Mary Widick got home Tuesday from a gay trip through Texas --accompanying husband, Bud, and visiting friends in Austin, San; Antonio, Corpus Christi, Houston and Waco The A. L.

The Rev. Brendan Downey, the Rev. Peter Beckman and the Rev. John Leitner were celebrant, deacon and sub-deacon for the mass. Th altar was decorated with white gladioU flanked on either i side with tall standards of white gladioli.

Arrangements of wardia fern and white gladioli formed a circular background for the ceremony. Candelabra decorated with gladioli and holding white tapers were placed to throw! a soft candle glow on the wedding! party. The St. Catherine's adult choir sang the Gregorian macs. The organist was Mrs.

Martha Farren. The bride wore a gown of pure silk with a petal portrait neckline fashioned on princess lines with a drape of pure silk starting at the waist on either side and continuing below the hipline. The drape was brought together at the back of the waist with a bustle bow forming an apron effect over th large gathers of the skirt which started at-the hip and ended in a chapel length train. Her fingertip veil fell from a crown of small pearls shaped into tiny flower buds. She carried a cascade bouquet of white carnations and steph- a Us.

Th niaid of honor was Miss Jo Ann Grieb. The bridesmaids were Miss Rita Frede and Miss Lyllis Ling. They wore princess style velveteen gowns fashioned with necklines, three-quarter length sleeves and litll waltz length skirls. The gown of the maid of honor was of palest blue and the gowns of the bridesmaids were Dior blue and midnight blae. They wore matching bandeau- style hats of a i velveteen leaves and carried cascade bouquets 01 white glamelias and varicolored Ti leaves.

Donald Deaver acted best man and Maurice Riley and Richard McGrath were groomsmen. Ushers were Eugene Redmond and Jerome Spaedy. The wedding breakfast was held at Hillcrest Country club immediately following th ceremony. An afternoon reception also held at Hillcrest Country club. Tall standards of wardia fern and white gladioli were placed behind the receiving line.

Around the cake were decorations of leather leaf and pink carnations. Miss Patricia Graham presided over the guest book and Miss Diane Mealy and Miss Marlene Haverkamp had charge of the gifts. For her daughter's wedding, the bride's mother wore a cocktail suit of heaven blue wool with matching hat, metal gray accessories and a pink glamelia corsage. Mrs. Vader, mother of the groom, wore a sheath dress and short fitted jacket of beige Shiki, brown accessories, and a yellow glamelia corsage.

For going' away, the bride chose a powder blue wool suit trimmed with tiny seed pearks, matching hat, navy accessories and a white orchid corsage. The bride is a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica college. The groom received his degree from St. Benedict's college.

After their wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Yader will be at home at 3711 Walnut, Kansas City. SHOWER Mrs. Don Cloves and Mrs.

Clifford Carter entertained recently at the home of Mrs. Cloves with a miscellaneous shower honoring Miss Judy Ellis who will be married soon to Neil Core. The gifts were placed on a mobile cart which was decorated with lavender and white streamers and centered with a bride and groom. Prizes were won by Mrs. Doro thy Lancaster, Mrs.

Adele Wagner and Mrs. Martha Eiselc. Mrs. Cloves and Mrs. Carter were assisted in serving by Mrs.
