Akins, age 87, of North Vernon, Indiana (a former resident of the Calumet area), passed away at Munster Med-Inn on Wednesday, September 11, 1991 following a long illness. He is survived by one son, Herbert Estel (Shirley) Akins of a Englewood, Colorado; one daughter, Carolyn (James, Jr.) Owen of Sauk Village, Illinois; six grandchildren, K. Michael (Linda) and Elizabeth Bockenstedt, both of Littleton, Colorado, Douglas Chapman of Binghampton, N.

Brenda Wilson of Sauk Village, Illinois, Barry Chapman of Chicago, Illinois and Dorothy Chapman of Sauk Village, Illinois; seven great grandchildren; cousin, Lillian Cheever of Boyton Beach Florida; half brothers, Herman Akins of Seymour Indiana and Clayton Akins, of Paris Crossing, Indiana; and half sister, Agnes Bishop of Riverview, Florida. Mr. Akins was retired from General American Transportation East Chicago, a retired farmer in Jennings County, Indiana. He was an honorary member of the Jennings County Genealogy Society. Services will be at 10:00 a.m (EST) Monday, September 16, 1991 with visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mary- a student in the Hanover School System since kindergarten, was planning on a 1 in social work or career psychology. She is survived by two sons, Joe (Charlotte) Military and Sam (Mary) Military, both of Munster; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Dorothy Hessville, (Richard) Mrs. (Larry) Scartozzi Dolores Smith, and both (Harold) Mrs. of Curry of Schererville; sister, Mrs. Henrietta Marshall of Oak Lawn, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Sam in 1985. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 9:30 a.m. at the Virgil Huber Funeral Home, Hessville Chapel, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church with Rev.
