Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Rock Island. A wake service will be held 6 to 9 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, Clinton, Iowa. Nicholson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Thornton was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday at Moline Lutheran Hospital. He was minister at Second Baptist Church, Clinton, and a former assistant pastor at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. He was also a self-employed barber who owned International Barber Shop, Rock Island. Rev.

Thornton was born in Mobile, and moved to Rock Island from Chicago 40 years ago. He mar- Deaths Clinton Rev. Thornton ried Hattie Faust in 1969 in Rock Island. and Mrs. Everett Swailes, -Letts, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at George M. Wittich Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Letts Cemetery.

Visitation is today at the funeral home. Mr. Swailes died Sunday at University Hospitals, Iowa City, of injuries received April 11 in a one-car accident on a blacktop road near Grandview. The accident also claimed the life of Gary D. Campbell, 21, Muscatine.

Authorities reported that Campbell's vehicle was eastbound on the blacktop when it hit a sharp curve, went out of control and rolled over three times. Mr. Swailes was born in Iowa City. He attended Letts public schools and Muscatine Community College. Survivors include his parents; sisters, Mrs.

Donald (Marilyn) Crow, West Liberty; Gloria Miller, Donna Patterson and Mrs. David (Joan) Maxson, all of Muscatine, and Mrs. Robert (Rita) Bynum Peoria, brothers, Rodney and Ronald, both of Muscatine, and Rollin, Grandview, and his grandfather, Otto Sell, Tipton. Osteopathic Pioneer MUSCATINE, Iowa Dr. David H.

Grau, 67, Muscatine, died Monday morning at Osteopathic Hospital, Davenport. Services will 1 be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation is after noon today at the funeral home. Dr. Grau began his practice in Muscatine May 17, 1934. In 1938, he opened the Grau Osteopathic Hospital and maintained the private hospital until July 1948. He joined the surgical staff at Davenport Osteopathic Hospital in 1949.

He was born in Muscatine. He married Marjorie M. Bosten in 1939 in Wash- Davenport Earl Metzger Graveside services for Earl Metzger, 87, formerly of 620 W. 3rd Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington City, Iowa.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary. Mr. Metzger died Monday at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Davenport. He was a salesman for the Muscatine Broom retiring five years ago.

Mr. Metzger was born in Washington City. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Nellie Ramm, Santa Ana, and niecps and nephews.

Severs Services Services for Mrs. Ivadell Severs, 65, of 315 E. 9th Davenport, will be 10 a.m. today in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Mrs. Schneckloth died Sunday at the home. Betty Schaff was born in Mount Joy. She married Mrs. Schneckloth Rudolph Schneckloth in 1916 in Davenport.

He died in 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Cecil (La Vonne) McClimon, Preston, Iowa; sons, LeRoy, Davenport; Allen, Long Grove, and Charles, Maquoketa, Iowa; six grandchildren; one greatgrandson, and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Kuehl, Davenport. Hull died Saturday at Good Samaritan Center, Davenport, after an extended illness. She and her husband Mrs. Hull had farmed until his death. Emma Whitcanack was born near Lebanon in Van Buren County. She married Dan Hull in 1907, and he died in 1936.

She had lived in Davenport for 34 years. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Joe (Margaret) Cassatt, Davenport; Mrs. Alan (Lola) Dittmer, with who she had resided in Davenport; Mrs. Irvin (Irene) Camp, Pulaski, Iowa, and Mrs.

Mrs. Furpass was a Mrs. Furpass teacher: at Davenport Green Acres and H.M. Perry schools, retiring in 1961. Edna Eichner was born in Hartley, Iowa.

She married Earl J. Furpass in 1957 in Davenport. He died in 1971. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Barnard, Davenport; four grandchildren, and a sister, Miss Maxine Eichner, Primghar, Iowa.

Rock Island Sarah Simmerman Graveside services for Mrs. Sarah Simmerman, 86, of 111 20th Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clinton, Iowa, Memorial Park Cemetery, Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Mrs.

Simmerman died Sunday at Franciscan Hospital. Sarah Chestnut was born in LaGrange, Ill. She resided in Rock Island since 1918, moving here from Rushville, Ill. She married Dwight Simpson in 1909 in Rushville. She later married Van L.

Simmerman in 1934 in Rock Island. He died in 1955. Survivors include a son, Herschel Simpson, Camanche, Iowa; two grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Leona Icenogle, Terrell, Tex. Laura Evans Services for Mrs.

Nellie Lannen, Coal Valley, and Mrs. Vera Bolte, Rock Island, and brothers, Lester Witherspoon, Melbourne, Howard, Minneapolis, and Robert and Milton Witherspoon, both of Rock Island. Joseph Hilson Joseph F. Hilson, 67, of 913 10th Rock Island, died Monday at his home. The body was taken to Nicholson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Mr. Hilson was born in Rock Island. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eileen Harris, Denver, Colo. Moline Ruth Carlson Services for Ruth I.

Carlson, 77, formerly of 1168 22nd Moline, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the elevator fund of the church or Davenport Lutheran Home. Mrs. Carlson died Sunday at the home. Ruth I. Carlsson was born in Smalan, Sweden.

She married Carl G.A. "Art" Carlson in 1919 in Moline. He died in 1967. She was a 58-year member of the church and belonged to the Sarah Unit of the church and the Christian Friendliness Association of Rock Island County. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.

Alice Ahlstrand Hoover, Moline; sons, A. Lennart, Moline, and C. Robert, Paramount, 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters in Sweden, and brothers, John E. Carlsson, Pontiac, and Peter M. Carlsson, Twin Falls, Idaho.

Blanche Van Buer Services for Blanche R. Van Buer, 86, Phoenix, formerly of 725 16th Moline, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at DeRoo Chapel. Burial will be in Lusty Memorial Cemetery, Albany, where Evangeline Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Erie, will conduct graveside services. Visitation is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Van Buer died Sunday in Phoenix. She and her husband had farmed in the Albany and Erie area for 60 years. Blanche Johnson was born in Moline, where she married Clemens J.

Van Buer in 1908. He died in 1976. She had lived in Moline for five years. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Alice) Shaddinger, Rock Island; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Mildred Swanson Services for Mrs. Theodore C. Swanson, 75, of 5208 11th Ave. Moline, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Chapel.

Swanson died Sunday at Moline Public Hospital. Mildred Jankelun was born in Chicago. She married Mr. Swanson in 1925 in Rock Island. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs.

Shirley Braden, Moline; a son, Theodore East Milan Marion Nelson Services for Marion J. Nelson, 61, of 1420 E. 2nd Milan, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Larson Chapel, Milan. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Nelson died Monday at Franciscan Hospital. He was a forklift operator at International Harvester, East Moline.

Mr. Nelson was born in What Cheer, Iowa. He married Bertha Cochran in 1949 in Keokuk, Iowa. He later married Clara M. Colbert in 1956 in Rock Island.

She died in 1972. Survivors include daughters, Miss Mary Ann Nelson, Milan; Mrs. Barbara A. Egley, Wayland, and Miss Barbara A. Nelson, Prairieburg, Iowa; sons, Donald E.

Partlow died Sunday at Moline Lutheran Hospital. She had been employed at Lucille's Pie Shop, Milan. Dora Frederickson was born in Kensal, N.D., and had lived in Milan for 38 years. She married Urban G. Partlow in 1920 in Moline.

He died in 1961. Brown, 80, of Taylor Ridge, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Larson Chapel, Milan. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was killed Friday when the tractor he was repairing lurched and pinned him underneath. The accident happened in a field, near Preemption, Ill. He was a crane operator for 30 years and farmed in the Taylor Ridge area. Mr.

Brown was born in Edgington Township. He married Myrtle M. Armstrong in 1918 in Rock Island. He was a member of the Farmers Union and the Toastmasters Club, Rock Island. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs.
