32 Seniors Maybe One Coach In Final Contest IOWA CITY, Iowa Thirty-two football players and probably one coach r- will close out their careers at Iowa and Illinois Saturday when the Hawkeyes play host to the Illini in the final game of the 1967 season. The game will mark the renewal what was once a fierce rivalry. Iowa and Illinois haven't met on the gridiron for 15 years but will portedly on his way out at the end of the season. A crowd of about 40,000 far below the season's average is expected to be on hand for the 1:30 p.m. kickoff as the Big Ten also rans struggle to make a successful season out of a single game.

Iowa hasn't won since a season-opening victory over Texas Christian. Illinois downed Northwestern last meet in the season-ender for the next five. Fourteen Hawkeyes will be in an Iowa uniform for the last time and 18 Illinois grid-ders will also get their last chance for glory in Illini colors. Iowa defensive coach Bob Watson will probably be in action for the Hawkeyes for the final time, also. Coach Ray Nagel's No.

1 assistant is re three on offense and four on defense. Eleven Illini will be playing their final game as starters six on the offensive platoon and five on the defensive unit. Ed Podolak is expected to be in the starting lineup for Iowa, although Nagel wasn't sure Wednesday whether the quarterback would be ready or not Watson, who has expressed interest in the head coaching job at Iowa State, made vacant by the resignation of Clay Stapleton, has reportedly fell into disfavor with Nagel and is in his last year at Iowa. A former teammate of Nagel's at UCLA, Watson joined Nagel's staff at Utah in 19C3. He followed his boss to Iowa week to bring a 3-6 mark into the game.

Iowa is 1-7-1. Although the two teams haven't met since 1952, Iowa hasn't defeated Illinois since 1941 giving the Illini 11 straight victories over the Hawkeyes. Illinois leads in the series with 22 wins against nine losses and two ties. Iowa will have seven seniors in its starting lineups last season. Watson's defensive unit has been infamous this season.

Nine opponents have rolled up 2,333 yards on the ground against the Hawkeyes an average of 4.5 yards per try. Over-all, Iowa has given up 3,453 in total yardage this season, an average of 5.2 yards every time an opponent ran an offensive play and that includes 59 incomplete passes. Ram quarterback Roman Gabriel fired two touchdown passes and fullback Les Jo-sephson added two more scores on short runs.

The victory, eighth for the Rams against one loss and two ties, kept them within striking distance of the unbeaten Baltimore Colts in the Coastal Division of the NFL. The Lions, 3-6-2, jumped to a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter after Dick Lebau intercepted a Gabriel pass at the Rams 35 and ran it back to the eight. An unbelieving crowd watched the Supersonics run off 15 straight points for a 25-8 lead early in the first period on their way to handing the Eastern Division-leading Celtics one of their worst defeats in many years. Dallas built its lead to 37-14 in the third period on Rent-zel's first touchdown and second Meredith-Hayes bomb.

Rookie quarterback i Hart, who was injured in the third quarter when tackled while attempting to pass, shocked the Cowboys on the second play of the game when he hit Jackie Smith with a 67-yard touchdown pass. Don Perkins' one-yard run evened the score after a 54-yard Dallas drive. Then Hayes, breaking two tackles and turning on the speed, raced 69 yards with Chuck La-teuretre's punt and the Cowboys never trailed again. The run equaled the Dallas club's punt return record. Mel Renfro's recovery of Johnny Roland's fumble slart-ed Dallas on its first scoring drive, and Meredith's 48-yard pass to Reeves put the Cowboys on the St.

Hayes' tremendous speed was too much for St. Louis to contain as he returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown and caught scoring passes of 59 and 34 yards from Don Meredith. Lance Rerlzel's 74-yard reception of running back Dan Reeves' option pass gave the Cowboys a 30-14 lead at the outset of the third quarter. The victory, Dallas' eighth in 11 games, gave the Cowboys a 2y2-game lead in the Capitol Division with three games to play.

The loss crippled St. Louis' chances of catching Century Division leader Cleveland. Meredith tossed a third touchdown pass, a 10-yarder to Rentzel, late in the game. Snow made a great over-the-shoulder catch just inside the corner of the end zone.

Mel Farr's fumble set up the second Ram touchdown. Farr lost the ball after taking a pass at the Detroit 17 and Chuck Lamson recovered for the Rams. Josephson scored two plays later on an eight-yard run. The third Ram touchdown came at the start of the fourth quarter when Gabriel hit Billy Truax on a six-yard strike. Minnesota looks like a cinch to be the Big Ten's team. It hardly seems possible that Wisconsin can offer the burly Gophers much competition in the wrapup Saturday. We predict 27-12 for Minnesota. Mr. Keyes, meanwhile, will be giving Indiana fits to give the Boilermakers the Big Ten title.

In the fourth period, Bill Bradley's passing and Ted 's running carried the Longhorns 56 yards to a touchdown that put Texas ahead 7-3. Bradley got the score with a two-yard smash. Then Hargett unlimbered tiis arm and threw a long pass to Long who got behind the Texas defensive halfback, Ronnie Ehrig, and caught it on the Texas 36. He ran across with Pat Harkins hanging on him on the longest scoring pass play in the Southwest Conference this year. It totaled 80 yards.

Texas came back to drive to the Aggie 15 where Buster Adami intercepted Bradley's pass to end what proved to be Texas' last threat. The second time the Aggies had the ball in the first period they rolled to the Texas 17 and from the 23, Riggs, missed a field goal wide to the left. A Hargett pass to Long for 43 yards was the big punch in the 63-yard drive. The next time the Aggies had the ball, they drove from their 30 to the Texas 25 in a drive that covered 45 yards but Leo Brooks batted down a Hargett pass on fourth down, and Texas took over. as the Sooners battled the Cornhuskers in a Big Eight Conference contest at Lincoln Thursday.

Others are Oklahoma's Jim Files (84) and Nebraska's Bob Kalsu (77). Sooners Take Title ith 21-14 Victory A couple of thoughts as we go into our final weekend of predictions for this football season: It's too bad that Purdue and Southern California a 't meet in the Rose Bowl for a match of the nation's two greatest halfbacks, O.J. Simpson of the Trojans and Leroy Keyes of Purdue. They're 1-2, take your choice for the Heis-man Trophy, and both are juniors. And wouldn't a Southern Cal-Purdue game be a better contest than what Minnesota, or possibly Indiana, can offer in competition with the Trojans New Year's Day? Anyway, it would seem that Hawks Must Keep The Iowa Hawkeyes get their last chance for a Big Ten triumph against Illinois Saturday.

And unless the Hawks can come up with a good pass defense, they'll take it on the chin again. The Illini have one of the nation's finest receivers in John Wright who has lots of speed. The Hawks, perhaps, haven't faced an end as fast as Wright all season. Even against much slower people their pass defense has been vulnerable. We've been going along with the Hawkeyes week after week, but this time we'll desert the ship.

Take the Illini 24-20. In other weekend games we like: COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (AP) Edd Hargett's mighty pass to Bob Long brought Texas A from behind in the final minutes to a 10-7 victory over Texas Thursday and won the Aggies their first Southwest Conference football title in 11 years. The triumph ran Oklahoma's season record to 8-1 over-all.

The Orange Bowl-bound Sooners are 6-0 in the conference going into next week's windup game against Oklahoma State. For the Cornhuskers, deposed Big Eight champions, the loss closed out a 6-4 season, poorest since Bob Devan-cy became head coach five years ago. Nebraska spotted the powerful Sooners 13 early points on a touchdown and two field goals, then rallied for second quarter touchdowns on the passing of sophomore quarterback Frank Patrick to lead 14-13 at the intermission. Late in the third quarter, a short Nebraska punt gave Oklahoma field position on Nebraska's 33. A 10-yard Bob Warmack pass to Steve Zabcl preceded Hinton's touchdown sprint on the third play of the final period.

A fourth quarter Nebraska threat was turned back when Gary Harper intercepted a Patrick pass on Oklahoma's three. An earlier Nebraska assault had been stopped by- MvlM4WWaNMiAM.
