(INS) Bob Hope is a pleased and gratful man. Long hours of cinematic risk to life and limb patiently endured to assure the more comical aspects of his latest film. Favorite Blonde," have been rewarded. He has forgotten the lump on his head resulting from the time his favorite blonde. Madeleine Carroll, whacked him with a heavy picture frame.

His muscles ache no longer from being carried half way across a flying field by four husky pilots, one to each arm and one to each leg. Bob even has forgiven that undiginified and definitely uncomfortable ride in a coffin. That was when the Nazi secret agents finally caught up with Bob and Madeleine. They were attempting to dispose of him for good and all. The story of the film is on long chase from New York to Los Angeles.

Madeleine is a British agent who must get plans for a rendezvous between RAF escort planes and American bombers to the point of take-off. She picks up Bob in New York and they are pursued by the villians all the way. It turns out all right, of course. Today they filmed the final clinch, not because the picture Ls finished, but because Director Sidney Lan-field had scheduled the scenes that way. Perhaps he figured it was high time to placate Hope.

The camera was set up to catch Madeleine kissing Bob. First they rehearsed the accompanying dialogue. When they reached the proper point Lanfield said nonchalantly: "And that's where she kisses you." "Oh, I think we ought to rehearse the kiss," insisted Hope. "I might faint on if we don't." Madeleine graciously complied. But one rehearsal didn't satisfy Hope.

He demanded more. He did the same thing when, after another line or two, he was supposed to kiss her, this went on and on. Thus Bob managed to kiss or be kissed by Madeleine Carroll through most of the afternoon. Yes, Bob Hope is a pleased and grateful man. Tyrone at the bit" during early weeks of training, which he doesn't think he needs, and more than once arouses the displeasure of his superiors, John Sutton (there is a man!) and Reginald Gardiner (also splendid in his supporting role.) The first assignment to join his companions in a flight over Berlin turns out to be a command, to scatter pamphlets instead of bombs and brings from cocky Tyrone the remark that he didn't expect to be back carrying the mail when he signed up with Britain. Tyrone is always disappointing Betty, in fact she calls him a "worm" most of the time, but she must like worms from the way she goes back for more. John Sutton steps in to press his suit for the blond lovely and makes Tyrone sit up and take notice, though it's hard to believe that he'll reform completely. The action in the air for which the American flyer had been waiting comes in big doses in succeed ing scenes which take the KAF over Holland and Dunkirk. It's fearful to see the Spitfires in combat while the historical, brave evac uation of the British at Dunkirk is enacted with terrific realism- by a tremendous number of actors (assembled, they tell me, along the California coast for the reproduction of the channel scene.) Some may say that the picture is Proudly Film Director's Daughter to Act Patricia Hitchcock, 12-year-old daughter of Film Director Alfred Hitchcock, has departed ofr New York, where she will make her professional acting debut in the Broadway production of "Solitaire," now in rehearsal.

She was accompanied east by her mother. Young Miss Hitchcock, who is as serious-minded as her famous father, insisted her dicision to follow the footlights as a career was of her 'own making. Patricia had bid adieu to her father on the set of Universal's "Saboteur," which he is directing. Van Druten adapted "Solitaire" for the stage.

Made before America entered the war, the picture now at the Parthenon was created with the cooperation of the British who provided actual movies of air battles, a German Messerschmitt shot down over England and other properties, with the aid of the American government which granted permission to use certain military planes and the assistance of Canada, whose training fields were in several scenes.
