Out Our Wa News from Around Chitiworth SHEELAGHWAnS 341-4489 Wtst-7-A North-5-A Most Accidents Blmed Tires The Chatsworth Chapter of ORT will conduct a used book sale at the south court in Topanga Plaza, 6600 Topanga Canyon Canoga Park, today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on'Sunday from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will" include paperback and hardback books and magazines.

The group is asking support for the project. Anyone interested in donating books or magazines may telephone 882-6579 or 882-1794 to arrange for pick up or books may be taken to the Plaza during the'three day sales. Committee members include Mmes. Donald Booky, Bernard Bettsrel, Robert Collins and Robert Wolf son. All funds raised will help provide scholarships for students who plan to teach in the ORT network of schools around the world.

APPRECIATION Mrs. Charles prill- served as Chatsworth area chairman for the Heart Sunday fund raising campaign for the ninth consecutive year and has announced that this was the most successful campaign yet. SCOUT NEWS A day of lerningand practicing basic Outdoor skills was held at Chatsworth Park South on Lincoln's birthday, Feb. 12. Altogether, 175 Brownies and Girl Scouts from Devonshire St. Elementary School and Alfred NobelJu- nior High School enjoyed the program with the help of adult consultants and several seniors from Troop 567, the Epsilons. Troops participating were Brownie Troops 2.13, 645 and 835; Junior Troops 137, 538, 607 and 702, all from Devonshire School, and Cadette troops 533 and '699 of Nobel.

Earn Patches The program was organ i a workshops for teaching the Girl Scouts' seven basic camping skills: outdoor manners and hiking safety; proper dress and hiking equipment; knots; knife and axe safety; first aid; fire building, and Outdoor cooking. By the end of the day all those participating had qualified for the "Seven Basic Skills Patch" plus seg-. ments denoting their level of achievement in each field from the first level through the fourth. In the morning session, adults and seniors taught the various workshops to help Cadettes complete levels three and four. In the afternoon sessions, the Ca- dettes served as teachers to help Brownies and Juniors complete levels one and two.

The event was planned by leaders of all the participating troops as a constructive inter-troop: activity that could be shared by all the Girl Scouts at Devonshire School. Director of the day was Susie McCourt, junior 'troop consultant. Adult or senior volunteers supervised each of the skill areas. And the 27 Ca- dettes taking part had previously attended a. Saturday workshop to prepare to teach the younger girls.

Another all-school, inter- troop event being planned by the same group is the annual Juliette Low World Friendship Fund Ingathering and Girl Scout Week celebration to be held in the auditorium of Devonshire Elementary on Thursday, March 14. NEW NAME At a meeting of community representatives, students and parents of the Chatsworth Continuation High School, several names were suggested for the school. The three names selected are Stoney Point High, Northwest High and Mary Logan OrcuttHigh. These names will be submitted to the Los Angeles City Board of Education by Norma Cappello, principal and student representative Debbie Klorman. SSMPA The Santa Susana Mountain Park Association, has received notification that the old Santa Susana Stage Road area, consisting of 178 acres, has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places as of January 10 in recognition of its historic importance.

This means that the association is now eligible to apply for national funds. The group is currently in the process of applying for the funds. In other news of the park group, Assemblyman Robert Cline (R-64th District) has nominated the association for the John and Mary Tyler Ecology Fund award at Pepperdine University. Though they were not one of the winners, a spokesman for the group said members felt honored to be among more than 300 entries from 18 different countries throughout the world.
