The tower will support an 8x12- foot reflector which will receive and transmit microwave signals used in long distance calls. R.

A. (Bob) Collier, local senior exchange repairman, stated that Tower Communications Co. of Sioux City, Iowa, is contractor for the tower. Superintendents are Norman Johnson and Kenneth Brookes. Workmen, who are assembling the tower, include Hollis Littlejohn, Bobby Hicks, Buddy Southard, Butch McCoy, Paul Sherrz and Bill Chadd.

Collier said the tower is called Gentle Showers Fall Over County Slow, gentle fall showers covered the county during the evening and night Tuesday and were still falling Wednesday at press, time. Although the measurements were only about .25 inch to Wednesday morning in mos.t areas this is the first general rainfal the county has received since early spring. The fall showers have been general over most of the state according to reports, which makes the moisture more beneficial than the spotted shoiwers of heavier amounts. Ward station in the city. This brings the total for the month to 3.07 inches and 12.52 inches for the year. The fall showers also cooled the temperature over the area. Incumbent ASCS Committeemen To Serve Next Year The incumbent committeemen were re-elected to serve as.

the San Saba County ASCS Committee for another term of year at the county convention held Tuesday in the local ASCS office, Lloyd D. Smith, local ASCS office manager, has announced. The present committee includes Roy B. Ware, chairman; Emit E. Peavy, vice chairman; C.

Raymond Oliver, regular member; Robert C. Sloan, first alternate; and Merle E. Taylor, second alternate. They will take office for their new term on Oct. 1.

The committeemen were named by the chairmen or vice-chairmen of bhe various community committees, including Chairmen, Darel Terry, community Robert Sloan, Douglas E. Keeney, Ezra G. Cook, Evlyn C. Harvey, Byron E. Lewis, Eugene Moore, vice-chairman, F.

The company has another guide tower completed in the Pontotoc area in San Saba county which feed the signals from the Llano tower.

Collier stated that the South western States Telephone Company will have a cyclone fence constructed around the tower when it is completed. The enclosure will be kept under lock and key to prevent children from climbing tower and to protect the installations. He also stated that about 700 telephones in the area remain to installed before the conversion in mid-November. LCRA Installs New Lights In Residential Area The local LCRA workmen recently installed 11 new street light in some of the residential areas of the city, Bob Smith, local LCRA manager, announced this week. Now lights have been installed at the corner of IJrown ami Ninth, Paean and Ninth, Sunset and Ninth, Sunset and l()th, llth and Woodlawn, and Fentress and Pecan.

These were turned on last Thursday night. Installation was expected to completed Tuesday for the lights to be turned on that night at Wilcox and Wallace, Commerce and Wilcox, Ruby and Commerce and Ruby and Wallace streets. Jr. Diilos Take Jr. Coyotes, 20-8 The San Saba Junior Dillos won a victory, 20 to 8, over the Richland Springs Junior Coyotes at Richland Springs Tuesday night.

The Dillos took charge of the game early in the game. Richland Springs, kicked off to the Dillos. They took the ball on the 30-yard line and drove 70 yards for the first TD. Larry Sanderson scored from the 7-yard line. The extra point try failed.

At the end of the first quarter the scor was 60 in favor of the Dillos. The Coyotes received the kick in the second period but they couldn't go and punted to th Dillos, The ball hit one of the Dillo halfbacks, they fumbled and Richland Springs recovered. However, the Dillo defense held and they punted the ball went out on the Dillo 8-yard line. The Dillos took the ball and drove 92 yards for another tally. Sanderson scored from 10-yards out and made the extra points.

This set the score at half-time, San Saba 14, Richland Springs, 0. The Coyotes received the kickoff the third quarter and made several first downs but lost the ball on downs on the Dillo 45- yard line. Chan Priest hit four out of 5 passes, completing to David Little and Radow Keeney. Little scored from the 3, bringing the score to 20-0. The extra point effort failed.

From this point, the Seventh Grade Dillos played the remainder of the ball game. Richland Sprs. scored late in the third quarter and added the extra points. The remainder of the game was a defensive battle. Coach Don Hennig said that all the Junior Dillos, played well and looked a lot better defensively than last week.

All the boys got to play' and they are improving very much, he said. 440 Bales Of Cotton Ginned To Wednesday W. R. Shipp, local ginner, stated Wednesday morning that the cotton is coining in slowly, with only 440 bales ginned. The dry land cotton was, vt-ry poor this season due to the drouth, and the irrigated cotton is just beginning to come in, he said.

"We ginned several bales of irrigated cotton within the last lew days, but ginning is. slow this year," Shipp said. Armadillos Will Host Hamilton Bulldogs Friday RS Coyotes Will Host Evant Elks Richland Springs Coyotes will host the Evant Elks at Coyote Stadium Friday night, Sept. 28. Game time is 8 p.m.

This is the final non-district game for the Coyotes whose record is 1-1-1. The iCoyotes tied Blanket 6-6; won a victory over May, 12-0, and lost to the Early Longhorns last Friday, 45-14. had no serious injuries Friday night and should have all the players on hand for the game, Coach Bob McMillan stated. The Coyotes, who have plenty of vigor this year, will be after their second win of th season riday night. Evant lost to Goldthjwaite last Friday night, 44-0, but romped over Cherokee, another 2-1-B team, 20-8.

A big crowd was out last week and the same is expected again this Friday night at Richland Springs. American Legion Meet Tonite The Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27, American Legion, will meet tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27, according to Adjutant A. L.

(Sleet) Franklin. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. James Harkey is chairman of the supper committee and Charles Angerstein will be in charge of refreshments. Franklin urges all members, to attend the meeting. John Connors is commander of the Post.

Cherokee To Host May Tigers The Cherokee Indiana will play host to the May Tigers Friday night, Sept. 28. The Tigers have seven returning starters and 11 lettermen, with Tom Fortune, '189-pound senior and three-year letterman, as their outstanding player. The average weight per man is 146 pounds. The Richland Springs Coyotes, another 21-8 team and Indian opponent, defeated the May Tigers, 12-0, on Tiger Field Sept.

14. The Cherokee Indians tied the Armadillos here last Thursday night by a score of 14-14, giving them an 0-2-1 season record. The Indian fans and Pep Squad will be out to boost them to a victory Friday night. Lubbock Firm Gets Contract For Road Work A contract for 10.5 miles of construction on RM Road 734 and 386 in Mason and San Saba counties has been awarded to a Lubbock firm, according to an announcement made in Austin this week by the State Highway Commission. Boswell Crafton, Inc.

Rebuilding, grading, structures, base and surfacing from MoCulloch county line to Llano county line is expected to take 220 working days, according to Ed Bluestein, district highway engineer at Austin. E. E. Pittman resident engineer at Fredericksburg, will be Gage Exhibits Top Gilt In County Show Mike Gage, son of Mr.

and Mrs. J. M. Gage showed the first place Sears' gilt in the county swine show held here Saturday, Sept. 22, County Agent Billy Kidd announced.

A San Saba 4-H -Club boy, Gage won prize money of $7 and a ribbon for his first place gilt. He also has the Sears iboar, and he will take both the animals to San Angelo to compete in the Area Show Saturday, Sept. 29. Other placings at the county show include Frank Gage, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Buck Gage, second place gilt with prize money of Nadine Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Walker of Cherokee, third place and $4 in prize money; Lynn Kolb, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Kolb, fourth and and Billy Johnson, son of Mr.

and Mrs. A. F. Johnson, fifth and $1. Ribbons were awarded to each of the contestants.

R. J. Powell, Richland Springs VA teacher, judged the gilts. One of the most interesting games of the non-conference season will be staged here Friday night, Sept. 28, when Coach Pat Hughes' Hamilton Bulldogs meet Coach Buddy Priest's Armadillos on Rogan Field for a battle.

Reserve seat tickets are on sale at Watkins Pharmacy and a large crowd is expected for this game. Coach Hughes, who served as team coach here prior to his move to head coach at Hamilton, has four starters from last year including Alton Todd, quarterback; Bubba Gerald, halfback; Gary Coston, nd; and Joe Winkler, tackle. Coach Priest stated that several new players to the Bulldog team include a so-phomore, Mike Kornegay, 172-pound fullback, who is a fine runner, and Wingback James Warlick, who is the fastest man on the squad. Warlick is a fine pass receiver. He caught three passes last week for 100 yards at the game with Gatesville, Coach Priest said.

The Hamilton line averages 171 pounds compared to San Saba's line of 180-pound average, while the Bulldog backfield will average 156 pounds to San Saba's 148 pounds. The whole starting team of Hamilton averages 166 pounds and San Saba's 168 pounds, which makes them a close team in weight Coach Priest stated that Hamilton's three-loss record for the season does not mean that the team will be an easy mark, as losses were all made to A A A teams and Coach Hughes' boys learned lots of football playing the Class AAiA teams. "We will have a hard battle to fight to win over the Hamilton team," Coach Priest said, "And we may have to play the game without Deanie Bagley." Bagley received some hip-point bruises last Friday night. Al- thought not serious injuries, Coach Priest stated that they were the most painful type. Bagley could workout Monday at only half speed due to the injuries and was unable to workout at all Tuesday.

Also on the injured list is Joa Stewart, who severely cut his hand at the store where he was working Saturday. The cut severed a tendon and he will be out of practice for about five weeks, the Coach, stated. Jarvis Shaw has been working out in Stewart's position for the game Friday night. Otherwise, the boys are in good shape and are preparing for a. hard fight with the Bulldogs.

The Armadillos Marching Band and the Drill Team will present their preformances during halftime. School Enrollment Continues To Increase The enrollment has increased to 890 students in the San Saba Schools last Friday, Supt. J. L. Akridge stated.

This is an increase of 10 students since Sept. 5, whan the total was 880 students. The high school now stands at 247 students which is active charge of the project, a increase of 26 over the first while it is under construction. of schoul last year, when 221 students enrolled. Social Security Man Sets October Visits A representative of the Social Security Administration will visit San Saba twice during October, according to his schedule.

Cen-Tex Phone Co-op Slates Annual Meeting The ninth annual meeting of the Central Texas Telephone Cooperative, Inc. will be held Monday, Oct. 1, at Goldthwaite. The meeting will be held in the new American Legion Hall located on U. S.

Highway 183, south of Goldthwaite. Registration will begin at 1 p. m. and the meeting at 2 p.m. A total of $100 in cash, 20 prizes of $5 each; 10 long-distance telephone calls of three minutes, to any place in the continental United States; and a variety of gifts, gift certificates, services and cash by the Goldthwaite merchants through the sponsorship of the American Legion Post of Goldthwaite, will be awarded to those present.

A large crowd of the members is expected for the meeting. The Central Texas Telephone Cooperative, serves a portion of San Saba county. Local Lions Set Visit For Blind Shops Caravan The San Saba Lions Club has slated a visit here on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, for the Texas Blind Shops. Caravan.

The caravan will be parked dur- ng the day on the courthouse quare. Sponsored annually by the local the caravan will have on ale loads of merchandise made by he blind people. The merchandise vill include quality brooms, mops, loor mats, ironing board covers and pads, and various other house- lold items. By making and selling the merchandise, the blind people are able to help themselves financially and can be skillfully employed. The Lions Club will receive a per cent of the sales for the club's treasury for assiting in the sale of the merchandise.

Members of the club will make a house-to- house canvass. Coyote Fans Organize Howlers Club "Richland Springs Howlers Club to support the Coyotes recently was organized with. Calvin Bush as president and Frank Wells, secretary-treasurer. Bush stated that some 40 mem. bers already have been secured but more are needed and he urged all Coyote fans to join the club.

The fee is $5.00 per member. The club has purchased a camera and projector to film and show the football games. This cost $710 and will be paid for from the club dues. A film of the Early vs Richland Springs Coyotes, the first home game of the season was shown at 7:30 p.m. Monday night, Sept.

24, in the high school building. The regular meeting for the Club will continue to be held on Monday nights at which time the football games will be shown and discussed. Armadillos Go To Llano The San Saba Armadillos travel to Llano tonight, Sept. 27, to content the Yellowjaek- according to Coach llolmstrom. The Dillos have played only onp gnme, last Thursday night, when they held the Cherokee Indians to a 14-14 draw.
