The continued development of the park's new Midway, which featured the Gemini double-racing roller coaster last year, will include the addition of foods and games buildings, according to William E. Near, vice-president of operations. He said total capital expenditures are expected to reach $4 million, the second largest capital Improvements program in the company's history. One of the rides to be added is the Wildcat, which will replace an older model Wildcat. It is an all-steel roller coaster with individual cars that travel through a series of overlapping and interlocking hills in a figure-eight design.

It will be located near the Space Spiral, the park's 285-foot observation ride at the front of the park. It is 50 feet high and the four-passenger cars travel the track length in under two minutes. A "kiddie coaster" will also be new at Cedar Point next year. It will be located across from Gemini on the park's new Midway, Near said. Cedar Point now has six roller coasters, the most of any amusement or theme park in the country, Near said.

Four have been added since 1976. A new rides area in Frontiertown will also be opened at Cedar Point in 1979, Near said. The Wave Swinger, a single-seat swinging ride will be the highlight along with the relocation of several children's rides from the front of the park. The Wave Swinger is a circular ride with passengers seated in swings. It will be situated in Frontiertown near the entrance to the Frontier Trail theme area.

Three children's rides will be taken from Kiddieland to the new area. A redesigned loading station to allow a greater ride for the Gemini and the renovation of the Centennial Theater are also planned for 1979, Near said.
