Holden never became one of the Angels, but her meeting with Spelling led to numerous guest appearances on several of his other shows such as "Matt Houston," "The Love Boat," "Hollywood Beat," and eventually her "Knight Rider" contract. While living in Hollywood, Holden met actress Julie Andrews and her husband, Blake Edwards. That led to another kind of work, charity work with a relief agency called Operation California. "We did the first airlift into Ethiopia even before they had U.S.A. for Africa and 'We Are the World," she said.

"I saw it all first-hand. I think that no matter what you see on TV, I don't think you're ever prepared to see it in real life. You have to actually go and see it for yourself. It was quite a sight to see." Shortly after the trip to Ethiopia, Holden organized another relief agency in her home state Operation Texas. Operation Texas was the first on the scene after the devastating earthquakes last year in Mexico City, delivering 15 percent of the total aid.

Goyernot Rebecca Holden hitting the road with her own country band Gannett News Service She starred in Tv's "Knight Rider" for two years, but it's time for Rebecca Holden to get back to what she really loves singing.

"Doing 'Knight Rider' was fun and it was good for my career, but when you're in television it kind of gets going like a roller says Holden. "I want my career to blossom and grow, and there comes a time when you have to put on the brakes for a while and go back to what you really love." Holden is doing Just that, touring the nation with her new country band. "I'm booked through December," she says. "I'm working with a great, five-piece band from Nashville. They're all super guys, and they've all worked with various other bands In the past." After working on a TV series for two years, a concert tour might seem like a big switch for Holden, but it's not.

She's done it before. "I toured with a band long before I got involved in a TV series," she says. "So I'm sort of returning to that. I toured with a band all through college and after college." Holden, who also plays piano with the group, describes her style as "contemporary country, or crossover country, I guess. I like to think of myself as kind of like a female Gary Morris." A native of Austin, Texas, Holden won the Paderewski Medal for her piano skills at the age of 6.

She went on to study classical piano and opera at the famed Jui Ward School in New York. "Of course, I don't sing much opera any more, but I still have my vocal exercise tape that I work with every day on the road to warm up before I go out and sing. I'm grateful for all the classical training I've ever had. I know so many singers who can't read any music at all. It really helps to know as much as you can when you're recording and working with producers." It was while Holden was in New York that an agent spotted her long, auburn tresses, thinking she'd be perfect for hair commercials.

He was right, and Holden became a "Breck girl" for Breck shampoo in TV commercials and in print. Holden quickly was in demand for commercials, but she continued to sing. She formed a country group that premiered at Manhattan's Lone Star Cafe before hitting the road for two years.
