12. He said that he would not have as many (pecans this year as his trees produced last season, bat most all that he had checked were of a good quality. Last year, Risien brought in the first new crop pecan sample to this newspaper office open Sept. 2. It appears that the crop is later in maturing this year.

The casebearer took its toll of the pecan crop this year and the production had been greatly cut for the entire county, according to the pecan growers of thii area. These examinations are the re- 3ult of President Johnson's action early this year which ordered the Director of Selective Service and Secretary of Defense to examine all newly-registered men who are out of school and available for service.

These, youths will not be considered for armed forces service at this fime. Normally, draft for service about age 22. The 18-year-olds who fail the Army's mental examination -will be referred by draft board letters to local offices of the Texas Employment Commission, where they will receive advice and counsel on jobs and preparation for jobs. Youths who get the letters are under no compulsion to visit the TEC offices, but may go if they feel the government can benefit them. of Meeting Slated For Tuesday Night The membership meeting of the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce will be held at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Cactus Cafe, Barney Sullivan, chamber manager, has announced. The meeting was postponed from the regular second Thursday meeting date to the following Thurs- dny, then due to several conflicting meetings the date was changed to Tuesday. The place was changed because of another meeting scheduled for the week at the community hall. Senator Louis Crump, who is iprogram chairman, will speak at the dinner ipeeting Tuesday night.

All members are urged to attend the meeting, LOCAL P-TA NEEDS SCHOOL CLOTHING The Child Welfare Committee of San Saba Parent-Teacher Association is making a plea for good used clothing for school children, Mrs. James Biggs, chairman, has announced. Many children outgrow good clothing and if any parents have such clothing on hand, both boys and girls, and would care to donate them to the P-TA, the committee would appreciate them so they may give them to thfe unfortunate children who need clothing in order to stay in school, Mrs. Biggs said. 1 The clothing is especially needed for children in the Elementary grades and may be taken to the office of Mrs.

Joining in this evangelism effort are more than 4000 Anglo Baptist churches and 475 Latin American Baptist churches. R. Newton, building contractor, is constructing the home which he will own and with his wife, will operate with the assistance of local nursea and other employees.

The lot has been leveled and filled to the required drainage and forms for the foundation were being laid Tuesday, according to Howell. Plans were made to begin the construction about the middle of July but some difficulties came up that prevented earlier work. The home will be constructed on the corner lot at West Storey and Murray streets, adjoining the home grounds of Mrs. Worth Doran. The building, which will be constructed of fireproof materials with the outside walls of brick veneer, will face West Storey Ureet, however, the front entrance to the foyer will be on the east of the north wing of the structure.

A walk from Storey street will lead to the entrance The structure will be 37'-2" wide by 140'-10" long, east and west, with a wing extending to the north, 47' by 32'-10" and a smaller wing, 10' by 42'-10" extending south at the back. The building will include 16 two- bed rooms for patients, bathrooms, nurses' station, examination room which also will have a shampoo table and other equipment for a beauty shop for the patients, all located in the long portion of the building, east to west. Also, a medical laboratory, storage and corridor through the center of the area extending to the doors to the ramps at each end of the corridor. The corridors will have hand rails to aid patients in walking. The front wing will include the kitchen, recreation and dining area, the foyer and office.

The back wing will house the library, nurses' lounge, bath and corridor to the outside door on the south. Plans call for a large court at the southeast comer of the lot which will be enclosed with a six- foot fence for privacy will enable patients to have a place to sit or exercise outdoors. The construction cost of the building has estimated from $72,00 to $75,000. Newton skid earlier that construction should take from six weeks to two months to complete it. The building will be constructed and operated to meet all the re- quiremnts of the State Health Department, Division of Nursing Homes, Newton said.

Newton already owns nursing homes at Ballinger, Rising Star and Semln- ole. Armadillos Wiil Battle Bulldogs At Burnet Friday The San Saba Armadilllos wil all-district tackle, and Larry Jen- travel to Burnet for a grid battl with the Bulldogs Friday night Sept. 18, for their third non-con ference game of the season. Keith Sanderson, fullback, suffered a knee injury last Friday night and will be out of play. Phil Sloan or Larry Sanderson will fill the fullback position, Coach Baskin. said. Sandy Watkins, who has been out since the Goldthwaite game, may see limited duty. a Keeney will not be able to play.
