Motorcycle Club of Indiana. Rev. John (Jack) Rogers Hammond Reverend John (Jack) H. Rogers, 66, of Hammond, IN, passed away Wednesday, Sep tember 20, 2000. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on June 27, 1934 to the late Harry and Agnes Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; one son, Stephen B. Rogers of Manhatten, New York; one daughter, Julia (Jeff) Wood of Tampa, FL; three brothers, Kenneth (Geraldine) Rogers of Chelmsford, MA, Roby (Jenny) Rogers of Lexington, MA, and James (Margaret) Rogers of Somerville, MA three foster- daughters: Chns Farnell of St. Augustine, FL, Donna Hgerty of Jacksonville FL and Gloria Bundy of Lakeland, FL; one sis ter-in-law, Jean Rogers. Tack was a graduate of North eastern University in 1959, BS in Education, George Peabody Colleee for Teachers in lybb, MA in Education and The University of Georgia in 1975, Specialist in Education. As an ROTC graduate Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 with an overseas assign ment in Korea performing such duties as heading up communications during President Eisenhower's visit, and was Honor ably Discharged as Captain.

Following his discharge in 1961 he served as a Home Mission ary to the United Methodist Church and math teacher to all black student Boylan-Haven-Mather Academy in Camden, S.C.. where he met and later married Lois Ann Chatterton. Jack and Lois worked not only to traditionally educate stu dents but to break down social and racial barriers in the community. Jack served as Head Master of Vashti School for Girls from 1966 to 1974 in Thomasville, GA. During his tenure he shep- hered hundreds of trouble teens into adulthood, from 1974 to 1975 he pursued a Spe cialist in Education at the Uni versity of Georgia.

He then en tered into Executive Director Training with Goodwill Industries at the Ohio Valley Goodwill in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later went on to head up the Calumet Goodwill in Hammond, Indiana, from 1978 to 1986. At Calumet Goodwill he JtiL Edward R. Rzeszut Sr. Highland. IN Edward R.

Rzeszut 77, of Highland, IN passed away Tuesday, September 19 2000. Survived by wife, Patsy of 48 years; three children: Robert (Jill) Stochel of Crown Point, Jeffrey Stochel of Crown Point and Debo-ra Ann (Richard) Fenno of Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Midshipman Rob Stochel of the United States Naval Academy and Ashleigh Stochel of Crown Point; two sisters, Mary (Henry) Wozni-ak of Phoenix, AZ and Joseph (late Walter) Kurley of Portage; sister-in-law, Erma Lee Sangster; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and Edward Stochel. Mr. Stochel was a member of St. Mary Church, Crown Point.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and the former owner of Ridge Re-Builders, Gary. He was very active in the East Glen Park Little League as coach and manager. Rich had been a lifelong Hobart resident. A member of Hobart High School, class of 1981; a U.S. Navy veteran for 9-12 years and a member of Painters and Allied Trades Local 8 for nine years. Member of American Legion Post 54. Rich loved hunting and fishing and being outdoors.

Survivors are wife: Leslie (nee Knight); four children: Gregory, Richard "Dean" Clarice and Lauryn Sanders, who were greatly loved by then-daddy; father, Richard (Carol) Sanders of Lake Station; mother, Penelope (Tom) Bryant of Cottonwood, AZ; two brothers, John (Marsha) Sanders of LaPorte, IN and Brett (Tammy) Sanders of Fishers, IN; one sister, Lori (Jeff) Baker of Fishers, IN; in-laws, Pat and Bill Knight; brother and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, 2000, 11 a.m. from Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Visitation Friday 2 to 9 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. was responsible for expanding Goodwill's reach and moving the main operations into larger facilities. From 1986 to 1993 he served as Executive Director of the Hammond Community Cen ter, where he brought financial health to the debt riddled organization and doubled the worn-ens infantchild nutrition program case load.

In 1993 Jack helped to launch Lake County SterA-Head Council as its first Executive Coordinator. He took the organization from a stand ine start to a 1.8 million dollar child care subsidy in'its first year. In 1994 Jack went on to work with the needv children as a counselor for Keening Kids in Safe Surroundings (KISS). At KISS Jack worked to better the lives of children, one child at a time, from 1995 to his retire ment this June. Jack served as Executive Director of the Northwest Family Services, for merly Hammond Community Center, where he worked tirelessly to relocate the organization from its Sohl Avenue location to the new State of the Art Ophelia Steen Building on Co lumbia Avenue in Hammond He took much pride and joy in lives of daycare centers chil dren.

His life's work in service to children and the less fortu nate was not confined to Jack's emDlovment. During his life time he has served in varying capacities with annual confer ences of the United Methodist Church in the Geographical Re eions of which he lived. Most recently he was a member of the Africa University Commit tee and the Mission Personne Committee for the North Indi ana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was an active Rotarian, served as President of the Hammond Rotarv Club in 1998 to 1999. He served for several years on the Mayor's Commission for the Handicapped for the City, of Hammond.

He retired from the Northwest Family Services on June 1, 2000, and also retired from the North Indiana Annual Conference in Tune. He contin ued Dart time employment at the First United Methodist Church and had been appoint ed Chairperson of Missions and Coordinator of Disaster Relief for the Calumet District. He was looking forward to volunteering for short term mission projects overseas and perhaps returning to do services at Africa University in Zimbabwe where he worked for three weeks this past August. An expression of sympathy may be eiven to the Africa University, a future playground to be named in his honor, or to the Open Memorial Fund of his church. Swan- son, 89, of Lansing, Illinois, formerly of the Chatham area of Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Con-cetta "Connie" Swanson (nee Parisi); four daughters: Regina (Douglas) VanderPloeg, Rita (Howard) Olson, Veronica (Joel) Dvoskin and Virginia (Louis) Miceli; one son, Vincent (Laura) Swanson; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Preceded in death by rus sister, Verna Swanson.
