THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1954 News of Men In the Service Pfc. Ranee A. Terry, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Terry of Blytheville, Route 3, is now completing four week of individual combat. training at Camp Pendleton, Qalif., Marine Corps Base. This training is given all Marine personnel upon j completion of recruit training before they are assigned to a duty station. Recently arrived in Korea is Pvt. Solan H, Lott, whose wife Mildred, lives at Blytheville, Route 3. He is assigned to the 7th Transportation Port Command C. Entering the Army in Feb. 1954, he was last stationed at Ft. Eustis, Va., He is the son of Mr. and Mrs W. E. Lott of Blytheville, Route 1. BLYTHEVILLE (ARK.) COURIER FAGE SEVEN James R. Reeder, son of Mrs. Jessie Reeder of Blytheville, was recently promoted to major while serving on Okinawa with the Ryu- kus Command's Ordanace Service. A veteran of 13 years in the Army, he previously served in Korea and is the holder of a Bronze Star Medal. His wife, Kay, and two children live with him in Okinawa. Recently arriving in -Korea for duty with the 7th Transportation Port Command C, is Pvt. Jackie G. Costner, son of Gerald Costner of Manila. Last stationed at Ft. Eustis, Va., he is now a stevedore in the command's basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark. Pfc. Harlan G. Bryeans son of Winer Bryeans of Blytheville, Route 4, was recently graduated from the 24th Infantry Division Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in Korea. Entering the Army in July, 1953, he arrived overseas last January from Camp Chaffee, 'Ark., where he completed basic training. A member of Battery A in the division's 145th Field Artillery Bryeans received instruction in leadership of units and other military subjects. Recently promoted to sergeant while serving with the 503rd Military Intelligence Service Co. at Camp Tokyo, Japan, is Walter N- Holly of Steele, Mo. He has been in the Far East since May 1952. Entering the Army { in 1940, he wears the silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple j Heart. Pvt. Joseph L. Mays, son of Mrs. Mary L. Morris of Blytheville, is now serving with the 90th Replacement Battlion at Ft. Lewis, Wash. He entered the Army in Apr., 1953, and completed basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif. Pfc. Joseph. W. England, son ol Otis W. itfigland of Steele, Mo., Route 1, is serving with the «4tn Field Artillery -Battalion in Germany which was best field artillery unit in VIE Competition. He had been overseas since December, 1953, and is a wireman in the battalion's Battery A. Pfc. Thomas M. Reagan is now stationed in Korea wiui the 1st Marine Division. He arrived overseas in Nov., 1953, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Reagan oi Phoenix, Ariz. Recently taking part in firing and tactical exercises with the 35th Field Artillery Battalion at Ft. Riley, Kan., is M|Sgt. Edwin W. Chapin, son of Mrs. Mamie Crow of Manila. Participating in "Exercise Keystone" in the Mediterranean Sea this month is Lt. Cmdr. Francis A. Butler, son of Mrs. W. A. Butler of Osceola. He is attached to Staff Amphibious Group 4 in the combined land, sea and air exercise involving countries of the North Atlantic Tready Organization. Red Scientists Attend Medical Meeting in U, S. WASHINGTON W)—Two Russian Medical scientists listened closely yesterday to an American Army surgeon's illustrated account of battle injuries inflicted on United Nations troops in Korea. The Russians, Prof. B. V. Pet- rovslty and Prof. E. M. Tarev, are among some 2,500 heart specialists and researchers attending the second World Congress of Cardiology. Two interpreters sat with them in the rear of the hall in a Walter Reed Army Hospital auditorium. The talks, by Lt. Col. Carl W. Hughes, dealt with wounds inflicted on major arteries of the body by fragmentary missiles—as from mortar shells or exploded mines. He said later he did not know the Russians were in the audience but was aware they were attending the conferences. There was no comment from the Russians. Wife of Sen. Knowland Has Cerebral Seizure OAKLAND, Calif. If) — Mrs. Helen H. Knowland, wife of Sen. William F. Knowland (R-Calif) was reported recovering today from a mild cerebral seizure.
