IN CASE OF A SHORTAGE Western Kentucky Coal Fields Coal! Supply tbe Deaanl Despite' the coal miner strike Louis ville people need fear no famine. All the river dealer nave an abundant supply on hand. In fact It to said that more coal 1 lying on the river front ot Louis ville and at the Pumpkin Patch, than daring this period in any previous year. The river supply to estimated at from 1,000,000 to 4.000.000 btteheia. Beside this soma of the railroad dealers have lying In their yard 2.000.000 bushel more, so that the strike can continue for months yet without decreasing the available supply.

Should the river supply drop off materially, the mines In Western Kentucky where the miners are at work and apparently have no Inten tion of striking could supply Louisville's needs. A number of the coal dealers are at present engaged In supplying the rail roads and dealers throughout the North. Yesterday the St. Bernard Coal Com. pany closed a contract to furnish, a com pany in Chicago wKh S0.00O bushel.

which hi I.eoOtons. This will be takes from the yards in Louisville. The company will begin loading: and shipping to-day and It will require three or tour days to get out all the coaL The Padflc Coal Company to also sell ing large quantities of coal for shipment to the North, where a supply to not available because of the strike. The company was busily engaged In filling; fifty cars yesterday and getting them ready for shipment. The Central Coal and Iron Company during last week shipped about 60,000 bushels to Chicago and Northern Indiana and to preparing to fill another big order.

In most ot the case the Ken. tucky operators are fining the orders directly from the mines. This saves the expense of reloading. Even If the whole yard supply of Kentucky coal were shipped North, Louis ville could not suffer, because the ca pactty of the western mines to about 800 car load a day. which would keep th supply And demand at something like even figures.

If the whole local avail able supply should be sold, however. It would have a tendency to raise the prices oa coal. aJ tho ugh this baa not yet been done and there Is no Imme diate rfkeimood that It will te. The river coal dealers are doing comparatively little shipping, although they have received many Inquiries for coal from tbe North. One of the officials of the CTNesi Coal Company said yesterday that the river men were not a position just yet to compete with the railroad, dealers, as they labor under the extra expense of hauling- their coal to tbe tracks before it can be shipped, ir the demand con tlnue to be as strong as It haa bean for the Tat week, however, tbe price may reach figures w-here the river men can afford to Quote prices, FREE EXCURSION For tbe Poor a ad Sick This After- All axrangemer4ji iiavo been made for the Tunes' fresh, air excursion, which goes up the river this afternoon.

The boat will leave the river front promptly at 3 o'clock. These river outings afford much benefit and pleasure to a large number of poor children who rarely have the opportunity for recreation. It 1 estimated that at least 400 people will take advantage ef the trip to-day. The ladies of the Flower Mission have labored unceasingly to reach a great number of helpless children, having personally visited over two hundred families. These good women will see that every one who desires tn go wilt have the chance.

Carriages will convey those who are too feeble or ill to get to tho wharf. The ladles will be on the boat and attend personally to the wants of those who attend.
