Her state time of 10:46 was 40 seconds faster than her previous best and left her only 10 seconds behind the winner Hobson has run a 5:06 mile. Another state competitor, Ronnie Wayne Williams, distinguished himself at the Pierce meet, winning both the Open 100 (10.0) and 220i21.9). Afterwards, he said he is still undecided about his choice of junior colleges for the fall But he called Compton College another possibility in addition to Valley and Pierce. Williams has qualified for next Wednesday's all- comers championship meet In three events (100,220 and 440) but said he will probably concentrate on the 220 and quarter-mile.

In the Open high jump, El Camino Real's Rob Olson turned inoneofthetopleapsofthe summer by clearing 6-8. Olson had negotiated seven feet in the spring. Former Hart star John McKenzie won the Open shot put with a heave of 54-3 McKenzie is now competing for USC. In the Novice Division, Cleveland's Walt Corley highlighted performances with a 14.9 clocking in the 120-yard high hurdles. For complete results, see Scoreboard, page 5.

F.E. Summer cage foes gearing for playoffs It'll be playoff tune Sunday at noon in the boy's high school division of the Olympic Development basketball leagues at Cal State Los Angeles. Since all teams make the playoffs, each club will try to position itself for an easy matchup in the postseason event Pairings haven't been announced yet, but international style basketball, with the finest Southern California talent, will be on display. San Fernando Valley (6-4) continues to move toward an easy first round playoff opponent Tony Anderson of Victor Valley, headed for UCLA, continues to burn opponents with a 30.8 scoring average. Leading rebounder in the same division is Ron Cornelius headed for University of Pacific.

Ronny (6-9) has hauled down an average of 11.5 rebounds per outing. In the Junior Silver division. South Bay and San Gabriel Valley are competing for the top spot. The dominating player has been Mark Shannon of Orange County Beach, who is averaging 21.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and a free throw percentage of 77.4. In the girl's high school division, Ventura and the Desert (2-0) are tied for the lead.

Thera Smith of Orange County Beach leads in scoring (22 points a game) and Karen Hall of South Bay leads in rebounding, 13.5 average.
