Gacy's arrest Monday by the Black Hawk County sheriff's office followed a report by the 16-year-old sophomore last week to police that Russell Schroeder, 18, had been hired to kill him. Deputy Sheriff Robert Aid-rich said Gacy allegedly paid the Schroeder youth $10 and promised to pay off a $300 note on Schroeder's car if the 16-year-old were beaten. The younger boy said he was driven to a park near Hudson, where a chemical substance was sprayed onto his face.
