A group of physicians who examined the other 390 children advised that nearly half of them needed removal of tonsils. The remaining half of the 390 were examined by a second group of physicians, and, by golly, nearly half of them were found in need of tonsillectomy. This is getting monotonous, but now that we are nearing the nd we may as well finish the report. Still another group of physicians examined the 180-odd children who had passed the first two examinations and when the screening was completed just 65 children out of the original thousand got away with their tonsils intact. Five years ago a professor of pediatrics (diseases of children) said, in a leading medical journal, that he considered the current craze for tonsil removal responsible for many cases of pneumonia, burbar poliomyelitis, deaths from overdoses of anesthetics (80 a year) and children's neuroses.

If physicians were less rabid or less radical about this tonsillectomy business I'd omit mention of such sad happenings. But unfortunately a good many physicians even today refuse to regard tonsillectomy as a major operation until some such tragedy occurs. If the physician knows or believes the tonsils harbor a septic focus which is the source of the patient's arthritis, neuritis, iritis or other focal infection, the pur oo Hon McNeill Show. NBC-affiliated station WOC-TV recently won a citation from the School Broadcast Conference for Its series of Education Week programs. The showi were presented under the direction of Mary Louise Marshall in cooperation with the public schools.

Bing Crosby's four sons, Gary, Philip, Dennis and Lindsey, are guests on the Christmas broadcast of CBS' "Bing Crosby Show," tonight at 8:30 o'clock, in a program of varied Yuletide song favorites and an amusing skit which purportedly takes place in the Crosby home on Christmas eve. He will have his family as guests on his video show at 9 p. m.

Thursday on WHBF-TV Kay Kyser will lead his students on a "winter vacation" during his "College of Musical Knowlege" television program seen on WOC-TV Thursday at 8 p. m. FRIDAY'S TV: Brian Donlevy and Gene Raymond will star in "The Pharmacist's Mate," a story of heroism on board a U. S. navy submarine in World War II, specially written for "Pulitzer Playhouse."
