Everyone loves a parade, right? But how about a boat parade? The 13th annual "Christmas Afloat" decorated boat parade will be held on the Main Channel of the Port of Los Angeles. Trophies are awarded in several categories, based on the size of the vessel; whether it is a powerboat or a sailboat (got a rowboat? give it whether it's decorated by an individual or a group; and whether it is classified "commercial" or "non-commercial." (A tuna trawler might be considered in the former category.) Already entered in the parade is the Buones Dias, a 25-foot cruiser owned by Charles Skinner of San Pedro; Anterus, a 27-foot sloop owned by R. R. McNary; and Dream Lady, a 70-foot cruiser owned by Mr. and Mrs.

Hal Watson. As many as 50,000 spectators have been drawn to Christmas Afloat (a few have been towed) in past years. They view the lighted boats on parade from spots on either side of the Main Channel in the harbor. Admission is free to the public. However, to obtain a different vantage point, one can buy tickets for dinner cruises to view the parade from either the Buccaneer Queen or the 90-foot tops! schooner, the Swift of Ipswrtch.
