Maximum readings include Los Angeles 52, Chicago 65, San Francisco 58 and New York 60. The satellite photo showed high clouds stretching from Texas eastward to Alabama and then northward to the Great Lakes. Snow blankets the ground from the Dakotas eastward to New England.

Meanwhile, a new storm system spreads an extensive cloud area from Northern California to the northern Rockies. More clouds are located off Southern California coast. Private rites for Bierman SANTA ANA (UPI) A private family service was held yesterday for former Minnesota University football coach Bernie Bierman who died Monday at age 82 of a heart attack. Bierman's widow. Clara and James Bierman, one of his two sons, were the only ones attending the brief rites at the McDougall Family Mortuary.

The body was cremated and the ashes were to be returned to Minneapolis for burial at the Sunset Memorial Park. A graveside ceremony for friends was planned some time this spring or early summer. The family asked that in lieu of flowers contributions might be sent to the Williams Athletic Scholarship Fund at the University of Minnesota. Bierman, who would have been 83 tomorrow, moved to Laguna Hills with his wife in 1969 to retire at "Leisure World." One of the nation's best known coaches, Bierman built Minnesota into the country's top football powerhouse in the 1930s and early 1940s. Services held for Dr.

Bryan Funeral services were held in Hollywood yesterday for Dr. William J. Bryan who died Friday in Las Vegas of an apparent heart attack. He was 50. Services for the founder of the Los Angeles- based American Instu- tite of Hypnosis were held at the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

Bryan, who also maintained a hypnosis practice in Hollywood, was in Las Vegas teaching a medical seminar for physicians in the use of hypnosis at the time of his death. He leaves his wife Savilla, of Van Nuys, and daughters Beverly and Barbara of Sherman Oaks. Pallbearers yesterday included attorneys Melvin Beili arid Henry RothWatt. Rites slated tomorrow for Kate P. Swartz Funeral services for Kate P. Swartz of Canoga Park, who died Tuesday at Newhall Nursing Home, will be held tomorrow in the Little Country Chapel, 10621 Victory North Hollywood. Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Park, Pierce Bros. Van Nuys Mortuary directors.

Mrs. Swartz, 92, longtime Valley resident, was an active member of the Women's Guild of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, Canoga Park. She is survived by two sons, George C. and Ralph and one daughter, Vina S.

Harvey, all of Newhall. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. tonight at Pierce Bros. Mortuary, Van Nuys, 6153 Van Nuys Blvd. Funeral mass tomorrow for Cleff Bad weather is good news in drought-dry northwest By United Press International Bad weather made good news in the Pacific Northwest yesterday.

More rain and snow fell in drought-dry Oregon and Washington Springlike temperatures heated the midwest. Youngsters took to streets and sidewalks on skateboards, and an observer on Chicago's Michigan Avenue said, "I've seen more legs than any time since the middle of October." The storm that had camped over the Pacific Northwest for three days was beginning to move, the National- Weather Service said, and heavy snow warnings were extended from the Cascade Mountains to California's Siskiyou range and the Sierra Nevada.
