"Isn't it peculiah and fitting," she commented in Dixie-fry jargon, "that back theah in OF Kaintuck the Duhby television program should be broken into by a commuhcial for Elmuh's Glue?" We wondered how many would notice the ironic sponsorship, amused that it would come practically at post time for a bunch of claimers which most experts described as the worst Kentucky Derby Field in history.

MILLIGAN A great many of the 20, it had been hinted beforehand, were refugees from a glue factory and here right before our veiy eyes was Mama practically calling them all back home. While it was nice seeing a foreigner win the event, the feeling was there that I could have run it as fast. Skies were perfect, track conditions ideal and while Churchill Downs never has been known as lightning- fast the time of just under is somewhat disgraceful for a true champion. What an appropriate commercial! If someone doesn't correct those KTTV printed commercials during Dodger telecasts Jin going to begin screaming. Cincinnati is NOT C1NCINATT1 and Pittsburg, at last reports, had an at the end, to be absolutely correct.

Sam Ross, who fiddles around on movie musicals, radio, television and recording sessions with his violin, also runs the North Hollywood Bridge Club when he isn't busy at his primary occupation. The practice of kibitzing at important bridge matches always has been one of controversy. Some players detest playing with anyone looking over a shoulder, others have enough ham in their makeup to enjoy the scrutiny. It becomes, therefore, a matter of personal preference. However, it is a complicated problem for a bridge club operator.

Green peas, such as enjoy kibitzing and regard it as a form of learning, if we have sense enough to keep our mouths shut and submit questions rather than advance answers to the players after a hand is played. If there were no kibitzing there would be no improvement for a great many players. Ross, therefore, recently put it to the habitues of his club in questionnaire form with two sections, an a-b- in each. Number One asked whether preference was for a) no kibitzers, b) one kibitzer per table and c) unlimited kibitzers. Section Two inquired whether a) there should be no conversation with kibitzer, b) limited conversation or c) no restrictions upon conversation.

In each case won with A a respectable second. was soundly defeated. I assumed this Avould become of the land until I seated myself alongside a particularly intent woman one evening and was asked politely if I would move to another neighborhood, although the wording was some what more direct and indicated a clime far beneath the earth's surface and generally regarded as pretty warm. While in the world of bridge. I have a mild after shock to a recent column on wives' refusal to play with husbands as their partners.

The Savenicks of Encino. Jonni and -Jerry, when first married fell in love not only with each other but with bridge. They played together for five 3'ears which saw them arguing after each hand, as couples will, and never coming to a definite conclusion about method of play or bidding, which is about par for the course. They decided then that they could be headed for a breakup either of the marriage contract or the bridge partnership. They sensibly gave up bridge, but not without pain.

For the next several years they just read the columns until finally deciding it was only a game and should be given one more try on that basis. Now they're back and smiling like mad whether they make the bid or go down three doubled. That may not seem much of a stoiy to the average person, but try sometime to make that kind of comeback. I couldn't. hurd 'Hi.
