Personality of the Week Don't Be Afraid of Says Soprano By FLORENCE de SAXTIS "Color is such an asset that I always wonder why women seem so afraid of it," said soprano Roberta Peters. "Particularly for small women, like myself, color lends an illusion of height a fashion importance. We're restricted in many other ways. Full skirts dwarf us. Elaborate trim- mines weiab us down Bold patterns overwhelm us.

But color can make up for all the things we can't wear." Internationally admired for her beauty as well as her voice, Miss Peters uses the strongest colors even in 'concerts. "In fact, there's nothing like red, and red satin at tha't, for making me look like iribre than a dot when I come out on a big stage." Nothing Like Red Analyzing color further, Miss Peters said she felt many women avoid color because they are afraid they don't know how to use it. "If you're going to get the most fun cut of. clothes, you should study colors in relation to your figure and your pud hair tonp5" I A woman like Miss Peters can safely wear a dress made in one brilliant color. But a plumper, short woman will do better to keep the bright color in the upper half of her costume, where it increases both her height and her shoulder width.

On" the other hand, wide, horizontal stripes are fine for making a tall, thin woman look shorter and fuller figure." Miss Peters is annoyed with stores that don't provide daylight for viewing colors. Lighting Important "All the new violets and purples are especially hard to judge under artificial light. It's all right if you're choosing a cocktail or evening gown which will only be worn under artificial light. xBut day clothes should be seen in daylight." Miss Peters believes the one-color look is good for petite women, with the shoes and hat matching the costume. Bag and gloves can be an accent color.

"However, if you wear conservative colors, I believe in the bright accent. I enjoy black, when it's used in highly clothes. But I always wear a white hat with it. I like orange as an accent with beige, or red with gray." Friday, Nov. 4, Van Nuys (Colif.) NEWS--17-A Garden Club Tours The Pacific gur-'preside over a short in behalf of the dens of Mr.
