NYCUM' JUALYSTHEB1, EVERETT, DEALER IJV GENERAL, MERCHANDISE 1 is moving along as well ns can be expected on account of the general stag-nut ion in all trade. Ho says: "Our village Is blessed with two mercantile establishments, eaeh favored with reasonable share of patronage, one drug store, three blacksmith shops, two churches, ono grist mill, three shoe and boot shops, etc. Win. II. Aaron has uurchused the new drug store of J.

S. Biddle, and pioposce on moving bis dry goods into tlie new itoro on the first which will speak volumes of credit to our village, owing to tlie dilapidated condition of he old store room. Messrs. William Little and Henrv Burket, two well-known blacksijiitlis of this place have lissolved partnership. Business will be carried on by Mr.

Little. D. D. M. M.

Hitchey lias purchased tho desirable home of Mr. Bucket, wheru he intends taking up his residence on tlie lirst of April. Mr. Joseph Manning hasu new wagniininkcr Jiop in progress on tlio lot adjoining Samuel Beegle which will be completed as soon as the weather will permit, with tlie exception of the usual changes made by moving, this Includes all of Importance in that line. Notwithstanding the many diseases prevalent in our village during the past, which have carried off young and old, we find those who are disposed to make themselves sick by using new llye und Cro-ten Oil as a beverage, which reproves them severely.

Owing to the removal if the bridges over Vellow Creek by the ice flood we are less visited by our Cove farmers on their way to and from the coal region (Broadtop). There has oeen mors coal brjught into South Woodbury during the wiutertliau ever befure in the same period of time. In consequence we will see large crops of corn and wheat. Those farmers ure not afraid to risk a dollar in the ay of improvement, which will pay them one hundred per cent, yearly. How frequent do we meet with persons who would be farmers, grabbing up the dollar which their thin soiled land pro-duced and placing it ou interest at six tier ceut.

wlieu they could realtze.au income of fifty percent, bv expending it ou their farm in tlie way of lime and clover. Tuuy bold to tlie old uiuxium, a bird in tlie baud is worth two in the bush.11 A Fkiohtful Accident. In last week's Press refereuce was mad-- to tiie damages done to tile mill-daiu belonging tu Messrs Feltous, on the river below lue Juniata Crossings Bridge, by tlie Wee previous, l'o repair this damagj req dred no small amount of labor, uud Mr. Anthony Felton and Ins two sons, have been engaged in quarrying stones for this purpose. Ou Friday the lifth instant, tuey were thus engaged, and had a hole of about eleven inches drilled into a projecting rock about eight feet above the road, and while his son John and Albert, were putting in thu charge, and pounding in tlie tamping, tiie blast went off with disastrous effect.

John, who was holding tlie tamping ir uud standing near the edge uf tlie rock, had his right arm and hand broken and lacerated in a most frightful manner, besides receiving some ugly gashes about tiie face and head. Albert, who did the striking, received tlie force of tlie blast in lus face and neck, fell backwards and rolled off tlie rock and witii tiie side of his head struck tho end ot a saw log. His father, who had been under toe rock was by his side in an iustaut and thought he was dead, lilted him up and directed Joliu to follow if he could. Joan's injuries in his face biinded him yet he managed to get off the rock ami had gone part of the distance towards the house, which was several hundred yards, wiien be was met by some one, and led the of tin. wiy Albert revived somewhat after being brougnt to the house, but up to Sunday evening bis case was almost hopeless.

John was reported some better. Dr. E. J. Miller is rendering all the aid his power to give tliem relief.

Both young men are of estimablo character, and tlie family have the sympathies of a large circle of friends and relatives, in their sad alllictiou. COKltBSPOJDEMC'B. Hopewell, March 8, 187.5. Mr. EUUir Our attention has been directed to the following item in last week's UaziUe: 'Some gentleman residing atsaxton, gives it brier, account or tne ue-structiouof the Hopewell bridge.

Tao following is bis language: 'At two o'clock n. vosterdav tlie ice started ibove the HotiRWell bridire. Tne sight was fearful. It is described as looking as if a mountain had failed to pieces and in ide a stream or river of rocks, tearing under the bridge in frightful velocity. A ne uriuge uiu aiuim twentv minutes.

Tuc two west spans ire out. Tins was caused by tlie west nier being vouwlal in pitws I Tlie last pier was protected by the crib and hence We desire to correct the above error, bv stalinff that the remaining pier was not protected by a crib. Tlie one that is out was pio-tected by a kind of a crib which cost the comity something like $100. It was built and in shape, resembled a square rail pen, uud tilled up witli loose stone gathered principally from tlie bed of the river. Tlie ice completely wiied it out of existence in dye minutes from the time it w.is lirst struck.

To say tlie least. It was a very poor design and constructed in a clumsy and unworkmanlike manner. We leara that the bridge is to bo rebuilt as soon as the necessary arrangement can be made. We hope that our present county Commissioners will see to it and have a pier constructed of first class masonry, for we fell fully satisfied that uo oilier will ever be sufficient at this poiut. PiiAiitis IIomk, Nobles February lu, 1S75.

Mr. Lung: If you will allow inn a short space in your columns. I will give you a few notes from this part of tlie country. We nave hud aud are still having some pretty cold weather. Tnirty-live de grees below Zero is coin enough inr nm ni.

We had plenty of grasshop- ners here hint summer, it was tne urst time that 1 was afraid of "hoppers." Wneu they got to crawling several inches thick over tne ground, 1 thought it was time to put ou uiy shoes to keep them from eating my feet. They would eat anything they happened to liguf upon. One of our neighbors had the edge of his chisel eaten oil by them, but they appeared to like garden "sass" more than tiiisel.
