J. Updegraf, who has considerable celebrity as an oculist and aurist, is also quite a mechanical genius, and has invented several useful patents. His latest effort is a veritable perpetual motion. Such a machine has always beon considered chimerical, if nst im-posible; but there is no question that this machine will perform all that is claimed for it. The principle consists of two -horizontal arms, or levers, justified on oscilating pivots.

The motive power isja number of balls which move the levers by rolling back and forth through a convexity formed for the purpose. As one lever moves in one" direction the other does in an opposite and the power is so adjusted that the force of one lever starts the other. The model is small, but handsomeand costly. It is a very-pretty plaything and displays a marvelous degree of ingenuity. The Dr.

is justly proud of it, but whether it can ever be utilized we are not prepared to say, though it looks as though it might be. The Dr. also has a passion for pets and keeps in his office on Lackawanna avenue, opposite the Wyoming House, a cage of purely white (not mice but) rats, whose docility, intelligence and performances are really wonderful. We would advise any of our readers, who may happen in Seranton; to give the Dr. a call, and seeforthemselvsthe.se wonders.

They will find him attentive and obliging.
