A native of Liverpool, England, Mr. Dougherty spent his boyhood on the west coast of Africa. He fought in the Boer war and was wounded. Later he traveled a great deal in Asia, Australia and Europe. Coming to New York in his early twenties, Mr.

Dougherty, a tenor, sang in theaters there for several seasons, but in the last part of the century he came to Florida and established a canning factory at Matecumbe key. He was the first to can tomatoes commercially in Florida. In 1894 Mr. Dougherty married Lillian Peacon, now dead, and moved his business to Cutler, where he was awarded a United States land grant and where he continued business until 1912, when he moved to Miami and became associated in the Blscayne Canning Co. with the late T.

McCrimmon. Mr. Dougherty was in the real estate business from 1914 until 1928. He married Inez Barrett in 1927. Surviving are, the widow; son, James, and five Mrs.

G. P. Hull, Mrs. Raleigh Blackwel-der, Mrs. Fred Montgomery, Miss Netty Dougherty and Miss Sara Dougherty; brother, Charles Dougherty of Brooklyn, N.

and sister, Mrs. Hans Anderson, of Horton, Norway, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Carter Funeral home at 2 p. m. Monday by the Rev.
