Spencer, president-elect of the University, at a dinner meeting at the Savarin Restaurant in New York City on Friday, Feb. 16.

TROOP 38, LEWISBURG Howard J. Brosious, Merit SGT. CHARLES YOST KILLED IN ACTION IN BELGIUM DEC. 18 Sergeant Charles L. Yost, 21, was killed in action December 18 in Belgium, according to a War Department telegram received by his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Paul E. Yost, Lewisburg, R. D. 3.

Sgt. Yost, a native of this county, was employed at the Lewisburg Chair and Furniture Company prior to entering the service January 28, 1943. A member of the 18th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Sgt. Yost received his training at Fort Riley, Fort Lewis, Camp White, and Camp Maxey, Texas. He left for service overseas August 15, 1944 and took part in much of the action in France and Belgium.

He is. survived by his parents, four brothers, one of whom is also serving in the armed forces in Belgium, Pvt. Franklin Yost, and Kenneth, Nelson, and Clark, at home, and six sisters, Mrs. Marlin Hartman, Mrs. Cora Kembel, Yvonne, Mary, Ellen and Ar-lene at home.

Death Claims Miss Mary Kaler, Monday TOWN RESIDENTS AT LAUNCHING OF SS BUCKNEL VICTORY Vessel Named After University Built At Richmond, California The S. S. Bucknell Victory, fourth in a new series of Victory ships named for outstanding American universities, slid down the launching ways at a Richmond, shipyard Saturday midnight, according to word reaching the campus today. The Bucknell Victory was originally scheduled to be launched February 16, but an unexpected spurt in construction made possible the earlier launching, which took place at Yard Two of the F-ermanente Metals Corporation. Two former Lewisburg residents were among the Bucknell graduates present at the ceremony.

They were Mrs. Charles Reed, the former Martha Rice, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Rice, 610 St.

George Street, and Mrs. C. Arlin Heydon, the former Evelyn Frantz, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Adolf I.

Frantz, College Park. The Bucknell Victory is a Mrs. Boyd Fisher, of Williamsport, was a Lewisburg visitor Monday of this week. Messrs. Joseph Peterman and C.

L. Fry, of Muncy, were Lewisburg visitors Monday. Mr. Richard Lowe, of Williams-port, was a business visitor here Tuesday. Mr.

Howard Hanson was visitor Philadelphia during the week in the interest of Bucknell University. Mrs. Harry W. Chamberlain, Mrs. Raymond W.

Krise, of Milton, were dinner guests at the Lewisburg Inn Monday evening. Mr. Howard Kauffman, of Scranton, an attache of the Federal Court of the Middle District, was a business visitor in Lewisburg during the week. Judge D. R.

Pursley, of Laurelton, was a business visitor in Lewisburg Tuesday. The Judge is recovering nicely from his illness and was attending Federal Court while in town. VETERANS SERVICE COMMITTEE TO AID COUNTY SERVICEMEN William J. Busser, Jr. Conducts Meeting Of New Group Thursday Members of the Veterans Service Committee of Union county were entertained by Stanton Kohler, lessee of the Hotel Lewisburger, at a dinner meeting at the Hotel Thursday evening.

William J. Busser, of Lewisburg, acting chairman, conducted the meeting and explained how the members of the Committee had been selected by choosing representatives from every welfare organization in the county. Chairman Busser called for the report of the Nominating Committee after which the following were elected officers of the committee: Roy L. Stahl, chairman of the Selective Service Board, Mifflinburg, was elected permanent chairman, and Mrs. Amy Sholly, clerk of the Mifflinburg Selective Service Board, was elected secretary.

Mr. O. O. Orner, Veteran Representative of the U. S.

Employment Service, outlined the purposes of the organization, the main issue being to set up information centers in convenient locations in order that discharged veterans may learn where and how to apply for any right or benefit due him or his dependents through national or state laws. The idea is to prevent a shunting of the individual Miss Mary A. Kaler, 66, daughter of the late Reuben and Elizabeth Kaler, died Monday evening following: an illness of about three months. he i was born in West Lewisburg Janu-j ary 31, 1879, and was a member of the local Christ Lutheran Church for many years. surviving are one brother Jacob, of Boston, a sister Mrs.

Orner and will be able to advise the veteran or his dependents just where to apply for the particular service he requires. Appointments will also be made by committee members for the service man or his dependents. Information regarding service men will be secured through cards containing name, address and phone number of committee members which will be distributed to returning veterans when they report their discharge to the local Selective Service Board. Miss Phoebe Arbogast Dies Wednesday Night Miss Phoebe Arbogast, 38 North Water street, died at nine o'clock Wednesday night of complications and infirmities due to advanced age. She had been in ill health for several years and was bedfast for the past four weeks.

Native of Snyder county, she was born July 30, 1864, the daughter of Levi and Kathryn Arbogast. She was a resident of this community for the past 40 years and was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Church. She leaves a sister. Miss Clara Arbogast, and a brother, Charles Arbogast, both of Lewisburg, also several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Dorn-sife Funeral Home in Charge of "Rev. E. C. Basom, Evangelical pastor. Burial will be in the Mazeppa cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday evening between seven and nine o'clock. COMING EVENTS Lewisburg Woman's Club will meet Monday, Feb. 19 at 2:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Roy Birchard. Miss Sylvia Derr, who has been overseas on Red Cross recreational work, will be the speaker.

Miss Derr is on a leave of absence from Bucknell University. Miss Kathryn Birchard will play a number of selections. Annual business meeting of the Woman's Association of the Presby terian Church will be held in the form of a covered dish luncheon on Monday, February 19, at 1 p. m. Mem bers are asked to bring table service and sandwiches.

F. Kerstetter Friday Funeral services for the late Benjamin F. Kerstetter, 85, of Mifflin-burg, will be held from the L. W. Strunk and Son funeral home in Mif-flinburg Friday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock.

Deceased was born in Perry county May 18, 1859, and spent the greater portion of his life in the vicinity of Mifflinburg where he engaged in farming and later was employed at the Mifflinburg Body Works. Surviving are the following children; Charles, of DuBois; Luther, of Millmont; John and Earnest, of Mifr flinburg; Alfred, of Detroit; Ralph, of Lewis town, and Mrs. Perry Elliott, of White Deer. George Pursell and son returned to Lewisburg Friday to spend a furlough with Pfc. Pursell's mother, Mrs. Verdie Pursell, 24 w. Fourth street, following two and one- half months at Jackson Army Air Base, Jackson, Miss. to bemg transferred to Jackson, Pfc.

Pursell was stationed at Herbert Smart Air Field, Macon, Ga. Upon completion of his furlough he will return- to Greensboro, N.
