B. Ross burgess of the borougn of Cambridge Springs, vetoed an ordinance passed by the councils, granting right of way to the Erie, Cambridge, Union City and Corry Street Railway company. Constable Angel Hall, of Guys Mills, brought John O. Emerson, also of that place, to the city late yesterday afternoon, and placed him in the county jail, in default of $200 bail, to answer to a charge of assault and battery preferred by his wife. The supervisors of West Mead township held a meeting in the arbitration room of the court house this morning, for the purpose of selecting a road machine to purchase for use by that township.

Representatives of three different companies were present. The Carpenters' union will hold 3 special meeting in the Clerks' hall this evening. Miller MARKET SQUARE GROCER. the neadquarters of the International union. A small freight wreck on the Erie at Corry last night, was the cause of train 3 being over two hours late this morning. A fast freight was derailed. This makes the third wreck on the first division of the road in a little over week.

The fittings of the billiard and pool room of the Parish club have been purchased by George Fairman, and he has moved them into the vacant store room on Market street, nearly opposite the Phoenix hotel. He expects to open up a billiard and pool, room in the near future. William Moore, the prisoner who escaped from the county jail yesterday morning, is still at large, although an effort is being made to capture him. The missing man weighes about 150 pounds. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, light complexion, 32 to 35 years old, thin face, and wore dark shirt.

About 50 of Mr. Swartz's friends gathered at his home on Walnut street, last evening, to remind him that they nad not forgotten the event, and they also left him a beautiful chair when they left. The evening was spent in games, music and dancing, and a sumptuous luncheon was served.

It was a very happy occasion. A new order has just been promulgated by the postoffice department and all mail clerks have been given strict orders to hold up mail matter decorated with stamps that have been torn or mutilated. no matter how careful the surgery employed to remedy the defects. All this transpires in a recent publication of the postoffice department, which is, in effect, a manual of instructions on doing business with that branch of the government, In this book particular stress is laid on the prohibition of the use of defaced or mutilated stamps. Down with editors. Our correspondent writes that a Farm and Home company of Allegneny, has purchased the A. B. Greenfield. Crawford county, farm in Conneaut township upon which they propose to immediately erect an extensive pasteurizing station for preparing milk for the Pittsburg trade.

The farm located on the Erie Pittsburg road. The company is the largest engaged in the milk business in the city with an increasing trade to such an extent that they promise to accept and dispose of 50 tons of milk per day from this section, if it can be secured. While they will remodel the buildings on the farm recently purchased and establish an extensive dairy, they propose to purenase milk at prices that will net the farmers from 25 to 45 cents per hun- Dr. F. Frank Stockton is the winner of the five dollar prize offered each year to the members of the high school graduating class by the Daughters of the American Revolution. This year the subject assigned for the contest was the "French Alliance." Margarie Roberts was the hostess of a surprise party at the home of her parents, on Kenedy street, last evening, the occasion being the 18th anniversary of Miss Roberts.

The evening was pleasantly spent, and some nice presents were left for the hostess as a reminder of their visit. 'Squire D. W. Lockart, at 2 o'clock afternoon, rendered his decision in the case of Mrs. Trace, mother of J.

Ed. Trace, against Charles P. Britton. of the Gable house. The 'squire holds that according to the evidence.

there was not sufficient cause to warrant holding the defendant to court. As will be remembered the suit was brought by Mrs. Trace against Mr. Britton for selling liquor to her son. The action of the 'squire settles the matter as far as this particular case is concerned, but it is understood that another warrant be issued and that the matter will likely be taken direct before the grand jury.

Mrs. F. Stadter died at her home in Linesville Sunday, April 5. aged 63 years. The funeral was held Tuesday at 11 o'clock a.

Young Men's Christion Association Rally. The executive committee and board of directors of the recently organized Young Men's Christion Association of this city are planning for a mass meeting for men, to be held in Library hall on Monday evening, April 20. It is earnestly hoped that there will be no avoidable counter attractions arranged for that evening, as the committees desire to secure a very general attendance of all men interested in the physical, intellectual and moral betterment of the young men of our city. Washington, D. April new battleship Maine has left San Juan for Hampton Roads. She was ordered home for repairs necessitated by damage caused by the recoil of her six-inch guns. The guns are of a new type and very powerful and have a remarkably strong recoil. It is found that it will be necessary to strengthen the deck of the ship.

KUMYSS. WHAT IS IT? "Kumyss is meat and drink at said a trained nurse. It is claimed that many diseases can be cured by a diet of it, and it is certain that the sick whether in infancy or age may subsist on it when all other diets are rejected. It produces no bad results but brings a sense of refreshment and renewed strength. The benefit derived from kumyss has been especially noticed in wasting diseases where constant building of the waste must be effected without entailing extra work for the feeble digestion.

It supplies this need by giving the nourishment in a cool grateful drink which is pleasing to the taste and readily absorbed.
