In an interview with a representative of The Tribune-Republican Mr. Cummings told some interesting reminiscences of bygone days. As a boy he was a schoolmate of President Mc-Kinley at the old academy at Poland, Ohio, and spoke of the great liking the former tresident had for the study of mathematics. McKinley later came to Allegheny College, after Mr. Cummings had graduated, and he met him during the war down in Char-lestown, N.

C. Mr. Cummings enlisted with the 131 college boys who offered their service under Capt. Ayres and Lieutenant Heming, the assistant professor of Greek in the college, and drilled with the regiment on what is now Diamond Square, but when the time came to go he had to withdraw because his physical condition did not come up to the standard. He was later dratted and rejected, but, determined to go to the front, he obtained a commission as a lieutenant, only to he sent back within a few months with a violent attack of fever, and lay in his old room where the Odd Fellows' Home now is in a delirium for over six weeks.

In spite of his sickness at that time, and much sickness since, Mr. Cuimnings has outlived them all, being hale and hearty to-day and able to read without glasses at the age of 72 years. After the -war Mr. Cummings took elation of (Allegheny College held on the place. Left on bases Pittsburgh New York 6.
