DISTINGUISHED MEN VISIT ERIE GLOVES AT GROVES' 1 illc VICE PRESIDENT FAIRBANKS, CANADA'S POSTMASTER GENERAL AND CONGRESSMAN BATES These cool October days will naturally make you think of Autumn Handwear, and we are better pre. In 1902 the value of boilers exported was in ISol, in 1905. over So why should not Erie have a day like this? Why should not Erie garnish her largest hall with all these adornments of festivity and patriotism? Why should not Erie greet the vice president of the United States as her guest, and the distinguished guest from the cabinet of Sir Wilfred Laurier.

the distinguished postmaster general? It is appropriate that we should have tnis day. And so not only does the Chamber of Commerce, through whose agency we have met here to-night, represent all that is best in the city of trie; but so. if I may be personal for one moment, do the two guests whom we greet, represent all that is best in two great governments (applause). The Hon. Rudolphe Lemieux.

with Sir Wilfred Laurier, have seen the Dominion of Canada increase in her industrial prosperity and in the happiness and contentment and well-being of all her people. Vice President Fairbanks was selected for his present high office over a score of eminent Americans, because of those rare endowments and high qualities of head and heart wherein he towers, like his form, above his fellows (applause). And the average American, I undertake to say, feels safe in the thought that he may yet fill the place of the chief magistrate of the nation (applause). He is controlled by voices which come from the church, the school house and the fireside. He is In sympathy with those who would legislate and administer laws which make for righteousness only; and the American people, of whom he is so illustrious an exponent and representative, will not halt, but will go forward, will execute the laws willingly which are already on the statute books, and will supplement them with wholesome additions to meet the exigencies and needs of the times.

We must (ace resolutely whatever the future may have in store. No stream can rise higher than Its source. The source of liberty, frugality, honesty, self-restraint and true happiness in the state or nation is in the liberty, frugality, honesty, self-restraint and true happiness of the individual citizen (applause). We ourselves cannot be certain that success and progress are assured. We are, however, certain that it may be assured if we but.

live brave and upright lives. We believe the greatest victories are yet to be won, the greatest deeds yet to be done, and that there are for our people and the causes we uphold greater triumphs in store than any that have yet been achieved. There is one duty manifestly plain and undisputed, and that is to face the future as we face, the present, turning toward the right, to play our part as men among men. bles. According to an official of the I'nited Shipping company, no passages are Imoked by members of the imperial family, but it is intimated tnat at least one of the grand dukes and grand duchesses are trying to purchase estates here, through a Russian agent.

which is to be eaten, while the ordinary remedy is taken after meals, and simply digests The food without strengthening the stomach. V. W. Kiler, of Eiler's Academy drug store, has so much faith in the merit of Mi-o-na that he sells it under a guarantee to refund the money, in case it does not cure. A 50-cent box of Mi-o-na will do more real good than a dozen packages of th ordinary remedies sold for indigestion.

Then, too. it costs nothing unless it cures. MAY NAUDAIN, A WINSOME STAGE BEAUTY. Miss May Naudain, now playing a prominent psrt in "The Little Cherub" at a New York theater, is a beauty from Nebraska, her native city being Omaha. She began her stage career three years ago as Peter Pumpkin in "Babes In Toyland" at Hamlin's Grand Opera House in Chicago.

Miss Naudain is a brilliant singer, having been for two seasons soloist for Victor Herbert's Sunday concerts in the Majestic theater. She possesses a soprano voice of remarkable volume. Miss Naudain is strikingly attractive, with a petit figure and a very pleasing face. The Erie papers of Saturday devoted large space to reporting the grand banquet given Friday evening by the Chamber of Commerece, at which the guests of honor were Vice President Chas. W.

Fairbanks, Rudolphe Le-mieux, postmaster general of Canada, and Congressman Arthur L. Bates. The Times devoted nearly two entire pages to its report of the event, giving the speeches in full. The occasion was the fifth annual banquet of the Erie Chamber of Commerce, and was attended by a very large representation of the business and professional men of the city. It was one of the finest affairs of the kind ever conducted in Erie, and the speeches were unusually bright and pleasing, as well as scholarly and eloquent.

Mr. F. L. Cleveland, president of the Chamber of Commerce, presided as toastmaster, and Mr. Lemieux was the first speaker, on the subject, "The Dominion of Canada." Vice President Fairbanks responded to the toast, "The United States of America." Congressman Bates, on being introduced, acknowledged very lelicitously the honor he felt at being called upon to speak In such distinguished company, and paid an eloquent tribute to Vice President Fairbanks and Canada's postmaster general, Mr.

Lemieux. His subject was "Erie, the Border Line City," and in part he said: The Chamber of Commerce of Erie stands for all that Is best in the city of Erie; it stands for law, for good government, for good schools, for the highest measure of internal development, and the improvement and carrying on and making the most of the natural advantages with which this city is blessed. We are pn the threshold of a greater Erie (applause). There is no doubt that within the next ten years we shall see the population of the city of Erie, I believe, more than doubled (applause). The export trade of this nation nas increased wonderfully in the last few years, increased to an astounding degree.

And I want to say to you tonight, Mr. Vice President and Mr. Postmaster General, that the city of Erie, which manufactures more boilers and engines than any city in the Back Ache Sick Kidneys are quickly relieved permanently cured by the New Herb Cure. With proper care and the use of Mi-o-na stomach tablets, the very worst case of indigestion or stomach trouble can be completely cured. It is a sin to deprive oneself of enjoyment in life and become a burden to others through indigestion. The backaches, headaches, distress after eating, loss of appetite, gulping up of undigested food and gases are not natural. Mi-o-na stomach tablets will so strengthen the digestive organs that you can eat anything you want without fear of distress or resulting sickness. The directions for taking Mi-o-na emphasize the difference between this remedy and the ordinary medicine that is given for indigestion.
