Returning to the homes from which they were driven by the storm, Texans who aren't oil millionaires I find there isn't much left. The homes may or may not have heen smashed by the wind. But there is mud and water everywhere. Gierished old possessions are gone, or left sodden and worthless. The farm animals are dead or scattered.

The danger to the coastal region is over, but the heartbreaking task of facing the losses and picking up what is left remains.
