However, if they are merely dodging payment, you will need to take the matter up with a lawyer and deal through the authorities in Puerto Rico. Write to the Tuerto Kioo Desk, State Department, Washington, D. if you think the company might have converted the stock unlawfully. They will tell you which authorities to write in Puerto Rico to have the case checked. In Florida, a case like this would be handled through the States Attorney.

What is the difference between a stock and a bond. I've asked experts but the reply is always so involved that I remain unenlightened. IKS. A. 15., MIAMI.

Vrj I'll have a try at explaining and hope you tlij have better luck with me. When you buy a stock you are a part owner of the business. The money you put up is used for buildings, machinery, tools, materials and other expenses. If the company earns money, you get a share of the profits. If the company grows and becomes more prosperous and profitable than it was when you bought stock, your stock usually goes up.

That's how it's supposed to work. There are complications but I will skip those. Bonds are like loans. The company promises to pay the bond holder a fixed rate of interest and repay the loan at a specified time. I am very interested in opening a dress goods shop.

I don't know the first thing about the buying and management of such a store. I do know materials and some bookkeeping and accounting. Do you know where I can write for additional information? MRS. CONRAD MIAMI. JfTj You can write to the Government Printing.

fmu Office in Washington and ask if they have a book on this specific subject. I'm sure they will have printed matter that is at least related to the running of a piece goods store. You can also get very good help from the Small Business Administration in the' Huntington Building here in Miami. The SBA even runs an annual seminar in conjunction with the University of Miami night school. The course teaches people how to run a small business.

I don't know when the next school is planned, but the SBA office can furnish particulars.
