Baxter is Channel 7's most utilitzed utility man. When be isn't standing in front of a makeup mirror, he is performing before the camera. Weekdays, Charlie serves as a weather man on the 12 o'clock news. He also reads commercials for Pan American World Airways.

But on weekends, Charlie becomes extremely creative. He appears at 7:30 a.m. Saturdays as host for "The Fun Club." He is straight man for "Willie the Moose." Under the antlers and artificial hide is Herb Hirsch. While the station break is flashed on the screen, Charlie rushes off to become "Professor Klinker." In this role (requiring false nose, moustache and lab coat) Charlie conducts Channel 7's "Space Lab." He is assisted by a robot, played by Charles Folds. This kiddie show goes off the air at 9:30 a.m.

Baxter has a long lull until 4:30 p.m. when he goes before the camera again at T. Graves," to host the Saturday movie. The M. T.

Graves makeup is the most complicated. It takes about 45 minutes to apply scars and daub circles around his eyes. Sunday morning at 7:30, there is Charlie again, entertaining the children with a new suit and new face. He is the ringmaster for Channel 7's Circus. He invites talented youngsters in the area to appear on this show.

Local dancing schools supply Baxter with most of his material Baxter has been on the air since he was 16 years old. His first job was as a full-time announcer for WCOSin Columbia, SC. He. qualified for the opening by winning an an-' nouncer's contest sponsored by the station. The man of many faces, sometimes called the latter day Lon Chaney, is the son of a professional Army man.

Baxter attended the University of Chicago and then went to Toledo to take a job as chief announcer for WTOL, Baxter arrived in Fort Lauderdale in 19S2 where he worked on now defunct Channel 23. From there he came here to WQAM where be did radio announcing chores for three years.

In 1956 be joined a new television stations, WCKT, where he has been ever since. Baxter, aged 39 believe it or not is a bachelor. He lives in a modest apartment in North Miami and drives an Oklsmobile con all over the country when Charlie was UP- While the Baxters were living in Columbia, Charlie's father died. Mrs. Baxter took ber son to live in Toledo, Ohio.

He free-lanced on radio stations there until World War II when he joined the Marine Corps. He was discharged three years later after service overseas. Charlie headed for Detroit. Television was just getting started. He found work free lancing as an announcer on various Detroit stations but after four years he moved on to vertible.

"No sports cars for me. I guess my off -camera personality tends to be conservative." Says Baxter: "I dont really have a hobby. Tm always jotting down ideas for bits to do on my show. I like to loll on the beach and stare when I'm not working." Charlie doesn't like to admit it but be does watch television when be isn't producing it "I like the information programs and the cultural shows on Channel 2." says the bosom companion of Willie the Moose.
