One turkey of either sex is allowed in all counties of the Permian Basin regulatory district and two turkeys of either sex can be taken in Coke, Irion, Mitchell, Nolan, Reagan, Runnels, Sterling, Taylor and Tom Green. No closed season and no bag limit are set for javelina or squirrel. Pheasants may be hunted in Cochran, Hockley, Terry and Yoakum during a two-day season Oct.

Black has proposed a list of safety rules for hunters planning to participate in the seasons now opening up in West Texas. The rules amount to common sense suggestions which only serve to remind the hunter of what he should have thought to do anyway. The Black rules are: (1) Treat every gun as though it were loaded.

(2) Always be sure that the barrel and action of all guns are clear of any obstruction. (3) Be sure that the ammunition you plan to use is the right size and the correct powder load for your weapon. (4) Be certain of the target before you get ready to pull the trigger. (5) Do not point the gun at anything unless you intend to shoot. (6 Never climb a tree or through a fence with a loaded gun.

(7) Never shoot at flat, hard surfaces or water. (8) Do not drink when you are out with a gun. (9) Do not shoot at any game until everyone is clear of the hunting vehicle. (10) Do not shoot from horseback. (11) Do not carry a loaded gun on horseback.

(12) Try out your weapon prior to the hunting trip. (13) Get some exercise before hunting season. (14) Be careful while driving hunt vehicles. (15) Watch out for snakes. (16) Let someone know where you have gone hunting.

TEXAS HUNTERS have until 5 p.m. Oct. 19 to return application forms for participation in public hunts on the state's game management areas. A drawing will be held in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Austin headquarters at 2 p.m. Oct.
