As has hoi'jtofore been published in Tin News, he recently made a visit to Euroim and cait studied the waterway? in the new world.

He has also writ-ten a book upon this subject which is an accepted antnority. Galveston feels that she is deeply indebted tu Congressman Burton and his conferees on the Rivers and Harbors Committee in Confess, and to theh excellent iudgment is due much of Uie local improvement that has been made here. With the data presented to Congressman Burton frorr. time to time, indicating lit no uncertain manner this importance of this port to the great Southwest, hs hau felt justified in favorably passing upon the claims of Galveston and giving the port practically all that she has asked for. Tht citizens of iheie- fore feel thai they hardly need an introduction, to the worthv Congressman from Ohio, and cnly regrt-l tnat his visit is necessarily brief that they will be deprived of the portunity of Individually expressing their gratitude, for the interest he has ever manifested in Calves ton's welfare.

lie HUH In From lltn Caiupa.ffn fur the Purpose, BrRCIAL TO Till NBWi. Beaumont, June S. B. Cooper, who has cen in the upper part of tho district for the two weeks past, returned to the city last night for the purpose of being In Beaumont to meet Congressman Burton and party when they arrive here. The confusion aa to the exact date of the arrival of the Burton party caused Mr.

Cooper to come home sooner than ho otherwise would have done haif he been positive when the visitors were coming. Mr. Cooper expects to remain here until Monday. He expects Mr. to arrive here either on or before Monday, and he will spend so much time with the visitors as he can up to Monday nljrnt, when he leave- for Harrison County to resume the engagements he has creviaualy an- noungea in that county.

Mr. Couier is very nnxious to be here when Mr. Burton comes and would have desired to have spent fiev- eral days with the visiting: party had they arrived here on their previously announced schedule, but Congressman Cooper conceives that he is compelled to keep the promises he has made to speak to the people of the north end of the district ant! he will therefore receive Mr. Burton here Monday and possibly accompany him to Sabine Pass, from where he will return to this city and leave at once for Harrison County. Mr, Cooper preferred to riot discuss politics and his campaign at this time.

He has visited and made speeches In Tyler, Jasper, Newton. Sabine, San Augustine, Angelina, Panola and other counties tri the northern pari. the district, and fronY reports made by those who have heard Inm, the Congressman has acquitted himself with credit and made a very favorable impression upon the people of those districts. Congressman Cooper Is too modest to express an opinion of the results of his campaign, which has been as pleasant and agreeable as could have- been desired. He, of course, has opinions as to bin probable success In the primaries throughout the part-of the district he has visited, but he declines to permit the opinions to- be expressed in public prints.

Mr. Cooper expects to spend the time between now and the date of the primaries in different counties in the district and will make his last speech In Beaumont a few days before the primaries are held, which will be about July 7 or 8. It is probable that the occasion of Mr. Cooper's address there will be improved to Celebration, which will demonstrate his popularity in his home county. Orange to Bnnqaet Barton.
