Hold Special LUTHERAN MINISTER INSTALLED; EVENTS PLANNED FOR WEEK Several upuuial services were, held In local churches yesterday, including the installation ol Rev. J. Herman Larson as paulor of i J.utheran Church: delivery of an Inaugural sermon by Ilev Theodore Bornemann at St. John's Lutheran Church, and a tilk'on the Chinese situation at the First Presbyterian Church.

Several events of interest arc planned by local churches to be Sev lield i the week, Rev Mr. Larson, who has been In charce of the Xlon Lutheran Church for several weeks, was formally Installed aa pastor last nixht. Rev. Hugo B. Hatcrius, president of the Texas conference of the AUE- usLana Synod, preached the installation sermon, and the service was attended bv the uaslors of the south district.

Following the service was holv communion. No morn- inc service was held at this church vcoterday, on account of the dedication in Houston of the Aueus- tuna Lutheran Church. Rev. Mr. Bornemann was Installed Sunday.

No matter how the mighty wise of this world may attack the gospel they can never exterminate It that gospel of Christ is a sure foundation and will remain so.

And why is this such a certain fact? Bccauss It IB not a man-made doctrine, but a divine doctrine. All human wisdom is founded either on the testimony of other men or on one's own observation. We know that what others have testified and what we ourselvcG have observed or experienced. But In this connection we also know from experience that those so-called facts which other men bring us do not always remain facts, but erred We are thing Is entirely that they have fooled. PREPARATIONS BEING MADE FOE RALLY DAYS AND OTHER EVENTS. REV. H. L. FICKETT AT MORNING SERVICES'ASKS PEOPLE TO WITHHOLD SUPPORT.

Attendance at' local Sunday schools yesterday showed a marked ncrease over the attendance for past few Sundays, with a total of 3,070 present. The First Baptist school had the largest attendance, with 519 present. The First Lutheran, with 452 pupils present, was second, and the 'First Methodist was third wjth 443. Several Sunday schools here are preparing for rally days, on which reorganization for the winter will take place, although no special events are scheduled to take place during this week. Rally day for St.

James' Methodist Sunday school will be held soon, and the First Lutheran school will have the equivalent of a rally day next Sunday, which is to be educational Sunday for the entire church. At the Lutheran Church the three Luther leagues will take part in the evening service next Sunday. The Westminster Presbyterian Sunday school is also making plans for a rally day, to be held Oct. 5, and at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon thoee who are to take part in the program will meet to prepare. Grace Episcopal Sunday school is making preparations for a harvest festival, to be held at the parish house next month.

H. L. Fickctt. pastor of the First Baptist Church here, who called on his congregation at morning services yesterday to refrain from assisting by their "presence Influence or money" an Institution which "struck the fundamentals of Christianity." He declared that this was not a dead issue in Oalveston, and he referred specifically to the Open Forum, as "what is about to he imposed on Galvcston under the guise of education and free speech." 15. Lowe. 40-year-old McLennan County farmer, was shot and killed at Watt. 20 miles from here, early Sunday morning, by his negro tenant, Sim Knight. 45.
