Marcus Welbys? The opening notes of "Cahoots," The Band's latest album, induces once again the use of superlatives, as have all of their previous albums. "Cahoots" is nothing less than one of the best albums of the year. It was once said that "Music From Big Pink" their first album was the one album to singularly describe 1968 America. This album encompasses the same totality. They emerge out of the pile-up of loud, disjointed, disappointing and often depressing rock music as crystals.

Along with the Who, the Band has retained and interwoven tightness, musical perfection and awareness in their music. Each member of the group shines and glistens on every cut. Manuel and Hudson on the piano and organ, respectively, create the roots of each song. Robertson's guitar and his vocal work with Manuel, blending with Danko's ever fine bass gives the substance that Helm breaks Into even pieces. Except for the Beatles, The Stones and The Who, there is not a tighter, more lucid group in music.

Are there family dottors somewhere who still make midnight house calls? Are there general practioners around who put concern for the patient ahead of medication? "Of course there are," said Robert Young, the man who plays Marcus Welly for an estimated 40 million television viewers. "You don't see too many of them in big urban areas because there are too few doctors for too many people. The city doctor simply has too big a work load to be able to function like Welly. "But make no mistake about it. The GPs exist.

And their job is tougher than that of the specialist because they get emotionally involved with the patient." And that, really, is the primary target of Welby, the enormously successful ABC (Channel 10) TV character. "We lby," said the articulate Mr. Young, "deals in human people. The explosive beauty of "14 Pantomime" speaks for itself. And of course, Dylan did write a crypticaly Dylanisque song for this album, "When I Paint My Masterpiece." Interestingly enough, this Is the first Band album to have the lyrics printed on the Inside cover.

Reading the lyrics as a small anthology In itself is worth doing. Robertson is gifted; his words flow with multi-levels and his guitar weaves even more levels of consciousness. His words swirl around in your head, taking different shapes each time they come around. The phrasing is clipped and it is self-regenerating. Each cut is different, yet it attains the same high level as the one before.

There is not a down or a poor cut on the recording. From the Band, it is not hard to believe that every cut is impeccable. The mellowness of "All La Glory," "The Rumor" and "Stage Frght" (from "Stage Fright" album) are more than doubled on "Life is a Carnival," "Where Do We Go From Here," "4 Pantomime," "Thinkin' Out The historic merger or The Band (who were then called the Hawks) in 1965 with Dylan to unveil Dylan's transformed music (f acoustic-folk, to electric wailing folk-rock) was just the beginning. As with a clean, clear river, the Band has flowed naturally. Now they are the foremost American band.

Their 10 years together have achieved a rainbow of excellence around every harmony, note and chord. They have slid easily into their success, and the music of the Band enunciates perfection. Robertson was once asked how seriously he takes his music, and he said: "Just seriously enough to satisfy us, enough so that we can smile at one another when we are through playing." It is a perfectly beautiful and complete album. rf(Sho, k. The Band, Dylan, Leslie West, Jerry Lomax and many more live and play there, and a group worth knowing about is one called the "Rinestones." I relationships more than anything else. People get frightened when they get sick, so it is the duty of the family doctor to paint a bright picture for the patient whenever possible." Show presents believable people Therein lies the everyday drama for the GP, and that's one of the reasons for the steady popularity of the show. Welby's producers strive to present believable people in understandable medical situations. Once this has been established, they go ahead and tell a dramatic story. RESTAURANTS MIAMI BEACH FT.

The Byrds, the Burrito Brothers, and several other groups have come really close. But The Band's music is totally its own. Their generating sounds are sensitive and clear.

"Cahoots" differs from their former albums in that they employ the use of horns which only extends thin sound a little further, as in the opening cut, "Life Is A Carnival." Shades of the religious intonations, as in their second album, "The Band" are evident in "Last Of The Blacksmith." The use of the chorus as On "The River Hymn" and the lead vocal by Van Morrison and Robertson on "4 Pantomime" are candles on the perfect cake There are few people on the level of The Band, but Van Morrison without any question is one of those rare SOCIAL 14. Young does the big job, and he gets outstanding backing from James Bro lin, his assistant in Welby, and Elena Verdugo, the office nurse. There is careful casting for other parts, of course, but there's no problem getting good acting from lesser known actors. Then money. The budget runs in the millions and the help is well paid.

Commented Young: "I am constantly amazed that I am paid so well to do something I absolutely enjoy." He gave no figures, but he insisted that playing We lby was not a job it was his hobby and his avocation. 100C Rent 1971 Cars PO Fords Chevrolets Dodges 10 00 FREE From MILES RENTAL CARS 000C 649 70710000 fi FromS1 E- DINIC0101 101101Va 4 1111601114 witfor stylnlatitcf 0-rfAtnomisittio rattawat fREESILFRAilsfi. The American Academy of General Practice serves as an advisor to the show, and the reason Young's in town is because the academy asked him to deliver the keynote speech at its Miami Beach convention. 6710.S.W CORA WA 755 N.W thST 05 NWpthAVE .701 KW 17tWAVE 035 W149th ST HIALEAH Check Classified for Household Goods 6720.S.W CORA WA i 755 KW th ST 05 NWrith.AVE .701 KW 2.7tWAVE 035 49th Sr HIALEAH Check Classified for Household GoAL31Lods71)7511''''' 1 0 v( ik .:1 I i kit I 1 i til .)
