comic has been signed to a contract, said to be for six years, with a prominent cigaret company. "The Greatest Story Ever Told," a dramatization of the Aew bows in on January 26 over the American network, with William Stoess conducting the 35 piece orchestra and 16 voice choir and Fulton Oursler editing the script. Sunday Evening Party will have to change its name when it switches from a night spot on ABC to CBS Sunday afternoon at 1:30 starting January 26. Two motion picture studios ore showing interest in Phil Baker's Broadway play, "Holiday for Girls." If the deal is consummated, Baker will move his Take It or Leave It show back to Hollywood early in the spring. The Michael Shayne detective thriller series now heard on Mutual on Thursday nights, may shift to another web when the current series closes in mid-January.

There are as many rumors about the Hit Parade as there were about Bing Crosby. Now a rumor says that the sponsor is angling for Dick Haymes to take over the male vocal spot. Jack Armstrong, the indomitable All America boy, who has been the favorite for years not only of youngsters but of whole families, will be featured in a Columbia picture later in the winter. WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT Dick Haymes Thursday night show has been optioned by its sponsor thru October, 1949. Mills Brothers will join the NBC Thursday nh.ht Music Hall, replacing the King ole trio who now have their own NBC airer.

Shirley Mitchell will have the lead role in "McGar-rity and His Mouse," scheduled to begin Jan. 9. Words to "Chiquita Banana" song will be revised for a new radio spot campaign. Alan Young has a part interest in a small Canadian air port. NBC will send a crew to Brazil in May to televise the total sun eclipse.

Frank Sinatra who asked for a four-week layoff, is now reported as finishing with his sponsor in mid-January for the rest of the season. "I Deal in Crime" has been renewed until May, 1917. The Affairs of Ann Scotland will lose its sponsor on Jan. 23 but will probably stay on ABC as a sustained Burl Ives is headed for Hollywood for another film. A Texas radio station in exploiting the Eddie Cantor show did a "reverse" hooper, having girls make pre-broad-cast phone calls at random, urging dialers to tune in the show and also had book marks inserted into every book in the public library as well as in the books in the city's book stores.

Li-test figures show that 91.3 per cent of all the families in the USA have radios. Figures also disclose 7,000,000 auto radio sets, and 19,050,000 sets in places of business, hospitals, etc. Total sets in use are calculated to be 60,850,000. Happy Felton of ABC's Pot of Gold will recreate his role of the sheriff in Flamingo Road" when it is filmed. For Christmas Percy Faith was given a musical cigaret box which plays the first few bars of his original theme, "Aphrodite" every time the cover Is lifted.
