Barbara Dees and Ms. Sharily Jones also attended the rally. This is the time of year when senior who plan to attend college need to start applying and looking into financial aid. A workshop in financial aid will be held at Lake Howell to help seniors and their parents through the red tape. The workshop will be held at 7 p.m.

These students and the station face yet another hurdle. This is a 10-watt station and the FCC has banned all 10-watt stations. Therefore the station has to convert to 100 watts. This will not only take a concerted effort by the students but a lot of money. Fund raising projects have already begun, including cleaning yards for donations and selling doughnuts.

If and when they meet this goal, they will be able to cover a larger segment of this community. The radio station Is located on FM 89.3, and its logo is FM 89 and WGAG Radio (Green and Gold radio Oak Ridge colors). The station is on the air from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

At this time, the station offers a variety of sounds. They play rock, easy listening and give club news every hour. The station also relays public service announcements for the community. After this, they applied at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington C. The red tape these students had to over-come was remarkable. As a result of this effort by these two Pioneers, the station went on the air. two years later, November 1977. Unfortunately the students who instigated this program never saw it in action while they were in high school.

Of course, their work produced a program for students today to enjoy and benefit from. The purpose and objective of the tion is to provide the students of Oak Ridge training and experience in both the engineering and programming aspects of radio broadcasting as well as to provide the Immediate area with continuous community sevices. Today students are still devoted, even though they are a different group from four years back. The program director, the one who runs the show, Is Maureen Michael; assistant program director, Randy Perry; news director, Charles Martin; engineer, Richard Long; assistant engineer, Mark Sabatino; club lia- Maynard Evans High School Payne, current SGA president, stood in his stead. Guest narrator for the coronation was Annetta Wilson of WDBO-TV Channel 6.

The main purpose of the evening was to introduce Evans' royal family to relatives, friends, faculty, and the student body. Kings and queens from school clubs and organizations were introduced. After the campus royalty made their debut, the coronation call was announced by trumpeteers and the four young women and young men vying for the titles of Helen and King of Troy were presented to the audience. They included: Beth Adkins, Mike Bernard, Tina Jeter, Chris Johnson, Leslie Jones, Dave McCoy, Debbie Talton and Reggie Rucker. The sophomore attendants included: Frenchie Green, Jamie Dukes, Beth Ha- mel, Jake Kirby, Barbie Jones and Ron--nie McCoy.

Junior attendants included: Sharon Ford, Scott Consoli, Valerie Lowe, Reggie Perry, Brenda Oliver and Bobby Steele. The festivities were culminated with a delightful reception held in the cafeteria immediately following the coronation. The second major event took place on the football field during halftime activities. Helen of Troy and her king were announced at this time. Debbie Talton and Dave McCoy were crowned and then the new Helen of Troy took the traditional ride around the track in her chariot (a Golden Trans Am).

The third major event was the annual victory homecoming dance Tina Jeter was Dance Committee, chairperson; Leslie Jones, halftime activities chairperson; Evie Morgan, em-' cee of the halftime activities. Ms. Tonita Combs, Student Government sponsor, worked hard to make this the best homecoming ever. MIKE HUNTER 4 1) 1 King of Troy Dave McCoy Crooms High School Helen of Troy Debbie Talton Tanya Davis was elected president of the Crooms High School Student Council following a runoff election Friday, Oct. 26.

Joining Tanya was Bridget Deere as vice president. Sheila Brown was elected secretary and Bridget Palmer was elected treasurer. Tanya defeated Dean Shoemaker in the runoff with a 343 to 216 vote. Bridget won out over Bruce Nelson with a 372 to 183 vote. DEBI FRANKLIN Tanya Davis SL Homecoming at Maynard Evans High included different themes each day of Spirit Week.

Monday was Clown Day; Tuesday, Nerd Day; Wednesday, Sports Day; Thursday, Cowboys and Indians Day; and finally Friday was Spirit Day. On Wednesday night a "first ever" coronation was held. Even though there wasn't a crowning of the homecoming queen and king, it was a night that won't be soon forgotten by parents, fellow students, or participants. The coronation program was beautifully printed by Mrs. Velma Schwenke and students.

Michelle Adkins and Eileen Sherry, members of the Evans gymnastics team entertained. Shelly Porter, a young miss from our community, did a modern dance routine. After some research the background of radio station WGAG emerges as a fascinating story of determination and resourcefulness on the part of a few people.

V- Beverty is a senior at Lake Highland Preparatory School where she is president of the Student Council and National Honor Society, a member of the year-' book staff, varsity swim team, Spanish Club and Today's Active Service Club. She is the recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal for out-, standing work in math and science, and several Spanish, English and math awards. She is in Who's Who Among American High School Students.
