with Headquarters Company of the 326th Engineer Battalion A four-page reply setting for reasons for denial of the Lavenstein application has been received One of the principal reasons advanced for the disapproval is the serious of the ultimate elimination of educational service on the station and its replacement with merely additional commercial programming HINDER BROADCASTING Commercial stations already operating in Salt Lake City also suggested that the use of Channel 9 for commecial purposes might hinder the development of ultra high frequency broadcasting in Salt Lake City and Ogden The commission also said that a request or educational station KUSU-TV to convert to translator operation only and the possible shutdown by the Weber County School District of its educational station Channel 18 would seriously limit educational broadcasting in the part of the state' from Salt Lake City north The application for sale of non-school time on Channel 9 was opposed by the three commercial stations operating in Salt Lake City Considerations advanced include: 1 The shift of translators which would be required by the relocation of the Channel 9 transmitter would disrupt existing viewing patterns in a large region 2 The shifting of the Channel 9 transmitter to the location presently used by the Salt Lake City stations would be in fact a shaft of the channel from Ogden to Salt Lake City 3 The sale would in fact result in the conversion of the channel from educational use at Ogden to commercial use primarily in Salt Lake City The Lincoln School at 460 3rd is the
