Sports Briefly Harmon signs with McMurry ABILENE David Harmon, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back from Odessa High School recently agreed to play college football tor McMurry University. Harmon, who split time at fullback last season with Brian McClure, gained 334 yards on 61 carries and scored one touchdown. Harmon joined teammate Bryan Seitz, who earlier signed with the Indians.

Eddie Firmani resigned as the coach of the New York-New Jersey MetroStars on Friday just eight games into the team's first Major League Soccer season. Firmani apparently stepped down under pressure after the team collected a league-low five points based on one win in regulation, two in shootouts and five losses. The team has scored just nine goals, eight by Giovanni Savarese and one own goal.

Assistant coach Ralph Perez will replace Firmani on an interim basis and he will coach the team Friday night in an exhibition game against Fiorentina of the Italian League. A new coach is expected to be named next week, the team said. Florida State's Moss in trouble again CHARLESTON, W.Va. Randy Moss, already kicked off the Florida State football team, was returned to jail Friday after he pleaded guilty to smoking marijuana while serving a work-release sentence and a judge revoked his probation.
