third in the mayoralty sweepstakes with 779 and Councilman Dae Coons came in last with 626 Councilman Morris led the five-man two-woman field of council candidates with 1258 ballots in official tally approval to a woman running DUANE POULSEN New Harrisville Mayor Billy Halley a political newcomer LED FIGHT Mayor Stephens recently had led a fight against Riverdale over the countywide sales tax distribution issue The council voted to ask Terrace residents to boycott Riverdale businesses after Riverdale officials began collecting sales tax proceeds on the basis of point of collection The new woman member Lola Morgan received more votes than any other single candidate Her 1116 votes was trailed by the 899 votes of the other winner Percy Hess The mayor-elect Mr Halley won over incumbent Mayor Stephens by 147 votes 981 VOTES Mr Halley received 981 votes and Mayor Ronald Stephens trailed with 834 votes from voters who turned out in numbers in election Also defeated was Councilman Carl Barker who lost with 634 votes Councilman Robert Tucker had previously announced his impending retirement from city government Mr Halley Mrs Morgan and Mr Hess will assume their new offices in January Mrs Sorenson said Mr Halley is a retired Hill Air Force Base Internal Information chief who said previously he was by a disgruntled citizens croup who felt they had no voice in cily affairs ON votes to the 348 votes for Mrs Carter who said previously she made a try for the office so the mayor would not run unopposed TWO CANDIDATES Two candidates for councilmen incumbent Don Colvin and a newcomer to the political scene Dr Larry Doman ran unopposed Mr Colvin received 1323 votes and Larry Doman received 1213 votes City Recorder Cleo Christensen termed voting turn 4.
