STOLEN HORSES. The team of horses stolen from Day id Townsead, near Oasis, about two months ago, were recovered a few days since near Durant, and the indications are that the man taken with the team from Iowa City, and captured near this city bv Constable Seims, was connected with the gang who have been operating in that business in this vicinity the past few months. It was information gained from him that led to recovery of the horses, and if properly investigated, will doubtless lead to breaking up of the gang. The plan operations seem to have been to run horses to Muscatine, then to Rock Island, where they were kept for a time until the excitement had somewhat subsided, then run them off to Durant, and them to a saloon keeper.who sold them parties In different directions from that place, and all the horses stolen which we have heretofore mentioned have been recovered from near that point. Yesterday afternoon two mechanics' liens were filed in the District CI rk's of-gce of this county against the C. the Iowa Southwestern Construction Company, and F. E. Hinkley. The first one filed is entitled Wallbaum, Bridges vs.

the Chi cago, Clinton Western R. R. the Iowa Southwestern Construction Com. pany, and F. E.

and is a claim for a balance due them of $48,500, for grubbing, grading, bridge building, surfacing and track laying on the C. W. Railroad, and so claiming a lien upon the road as follows From a point oa the west bank of the Mississippi at Clinton, in Clinton county, thence running south and southwest through Clinton, Camancne, and Eden, and through the.townships of Butler, Win-field, Allen's Grove and Liberty, in this county, and thence through Inland and Centre townships to town of Tipton in Ce dar county, thence south and southwest through Cedar and Johnson counties to Iowa City thence through Johnson, Iowa, Keokuk and Mahaska counties to Oscaloosa, Iowa, and tbonce touthwest to St. Joseph," Mo. From the above, our readers will get an accurate idea of the line of road.

Following the above lien, Messes Dow ney Wright filed another one, claiming an unpaid balance of $5,961.03 for similar work done on the line of road. The title of the latter suit isDowney Wright vs. the Chicago, Iowa and AVes- tern railroad company, the Iowa Southwestern Construction F. E. Hinkley and Wallbaum, Bridges Co.

The matter will not be brought up un til the next session of the District Court, and it is probable that all work will be suspended on the road until after a hear ing. A rumor reaches us that already work has been suspended, and a large force of men discharged. We hope that Mr. Hinkley or the interested parties in the road will determine some way to ad just the financial difficulties no hedging the progress of the road, and keep on with the work. IUASOMC.
