Accident. A gentleman was lately thrown from his buggy ia Harlem, New York, and received a seyre sprain of the k-U ankle, besides other bruises. Before he uld reach his residence his ankle and foot were so swollen his boot had to be cut from his foot. Failing to get the immediate attention of a physician, some one suggested "ond'n Detract to relieve the intense pain with which he was suffering. The relief was so prominent and effectual that when his family physician arrived it was decided to continue it tor the present, the physician predicting at leat six weeks' confinement.

The patient keptbandag around the sprained parts, wcttins them every half hour night and pay, for five days, when ho was able to wear a tight shoe to go to his business with the use of a stout cane, not crutch. By tubbing the ankle three or four times a day since, the injured part has become as strong as ever before, which is unusual in such severe sprains. He used nothing but Pond's Extract. His physician. who used and prescribes fond' Extract, had never used it in a case like this before, and pronounces this as the most convincing proof of the remarkable powr'of the Extract.

The above rase is only one of a very large number of cases of sprains from falls on ice this. winter and from other causes cured by Extract. I Yonr a.il.? He had gone to sleep in the afternoon in one of the staterooms of the above boat, when a painter at the time employed on the boat painted the clerk's moustache white. The clerk awoke after a terrible dream, and glancing into the mirror hung near his bed he taw that the hair on his upper lip had turned gray in an hour. Hehad read of the British officer whoje hair had turned white ia a race for life, and of many other fellows whose heads had been frosted from sudden fright. The night before last, considerable ex citement was caused at a German board ing house in the vicinity of Second and Rock Island streets, when it became known that the wife of the proprietor had taken poison, with the evident intention of committing suicide. A physician was summoned with all haste, who gave the lady emetics, and then applied the stomach pump, removing nearly all the poison She is quite sick yet, but out of danger. Domestic trouble is said to be the cause We withhold names, as the lady is well known for her amiability and virtues among our German fellow-citizens, while her husband is well, probably, the least said about him the better. He is well known, too, but probably not so favor ably. 1 No moke indispensable article can be found in a household than baking powder, and health, economy and taste rectuire that the best should be obtained.
