Fonda Special To Focus On History of Families By RON LORENZEN Film and TV actor Kelly Thordsen, whose brother, Aid. Harold, is in the middle of a campaign for the Davenport mayoralty, hit town this week on the way to Chicago. There he's going to do some more of those soft drink commercials. Such undertakings go a long way these days towards easing the lot of some of the most famous names in show business. Kelly's last batch of sales pitches had him playing a baby, a teenage boy, mother, father, and grandmother.

He's also been" cast as a trapeze artist, Kentucky bootlegger, revenuer and a sea captain. Not all is carbonated come-ons for the ex-Davenporter, though. He has just finished playing the part of the sheriff in Tennessee Williams "Sweet Bird of Youth" movie which stars Paul Newman, Geraldine Page and Ed Begley. "Ed Begley will win an Oscar for this one," opines Thordsen. Also behind him is "Pocketful of Miracles," directed by Frank Capra, which stars Bette Davis and Glenn Ford.

As for TV he should be seen soon here on a "Laramie" episode. In a recent "Wells Fargo" opus he played an unusual character a sweet, kind man. There may be a deal cooking which would co-star him in a cops and robbers series. Thordsen says Jock Mahoney, former Davenporter, has com pleted a couple of pilot films for a projected series. James Philbrook, another ex-area resident, he says, is "completely dedicated" to his role in the new show, "The Investigators." The Philbrooks, incidentally, are parents of a new son, Andrew Rolland.

The grandparents here are Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Cassling.

Bv MIKE CONNOLLY HOLLYWOOD Henry Fonda's TV special, "The Family," will spotlight the history of American families from Pocahontas and John Smith to Tommy Noonan. The Noonans just welcomed their 6ixth child here in Holly-wood). Mike Selsman, Carol Lynley's s- 1 SI 1 Connolly band, tells me it'll also include a segment showing his wife during her pregnancy, which is right NOW. Mike thinks the expectant-motherhood interview is a first for TV, and he may be right. Fox-TV set it up for Fox-TV's right hand to borrow Gardner McKay his "Adventures in Paradise" series, complete with his boat, the Tikii, and hand him over to its left hand for a guest-starring spot in Fox-TV's "Follow the Sun." PEGGY LEE wrote a song, "San Francisco Blues," for her 6 Years MGM actress, Maggi Brown.

He's especially proud of David, born a deaf mute. "The boy has never quit," he says proudly. "Now he's able to a and is steadily developing his vocabulary." A nerve bloc had caused the initial difficulty. From viewers' letters: "Two or more years ago. Chan- nel 4 had Lupino and Duff in "Adam and Eve." It was a flop, Channel 6 now runs it and credits it to CBS.

Wonder how Mr. Sarnoff likes that. "Last year "Untouchables" was on Channel 4 this year on Channel 6. Last year Channel 6 had "Roaring 20's." This year it's on Channel 4. And so forth and so forth.

Everyone agree that Producer Ross Hunter has another mint in the Susan Hayward John Gavin sobber. Polly Bergen had such a good cry in the theater she made a dash up the aisle but was composed and glamorous later with husband Freddie Fields at the party.

It's about a man who has the blues because he's been painting the Golden Gate Bridge for as long as he can remember and has never been able to finish it because when he gets to the end, he's ready to start painting all over again at the other end. Wyo. (AP) Efforts are under way establish a na tional monument here commem orating what may be the best fish fossil bed in the world. State Geologist Horace D. Thomas said the 700 foot butte which contains the fossils once was at least 1.000 feet under water.

Dead fish settled at the bottom and were left undisturbed because scavenger fish could not live in such deep water. The fish were then buried in countless layers of mud. Some fish extracted from the butte are believed to have lived 50 million years ago at the beginning of the mammal age. One of the extracted fish was bought by President Eisenhower last year as a gift for Japanese Emperor Hirohito. Small pickled onions in the house?
