The Hegiiiier; Danville, Sunday, IVijv. 3, 1977 3-D Rozantz Leads WM's Upset Of Pirates NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Tom Kozantz ran for one touchdown and passed for two more Saturday as WiiJiam and Mary's Indians upset East Carolina 21-17 in a seesaw Oyster Bowl football game that ruined the Pirates' postseason bowl hopes. The Indians got the winning touchown with 3:15 left in the third period on a 12-yard run by Rozantz, who had made it to the end zone before an overcoat-clad fan either fell into or tackled him. The victory upped William and Mary's record to 5-5 and ended East Carolina's season at 8-3.

East Carolina's was highlighted by a 95-yard scoring run by Eddie Hicks with 7:04 left in the third period that gave the Pirates their final lead at 17-14. But the Indians stormed back with Rozantz's run capping a 77- yard drive marked by two 15-yard penalties against the Pirates. The changed hands five times, with the fourth quarter the only scoreless 15-minute period. East Carolina got on the board early in the first quarter with a 36-yard field goal by Junior Creech. But William and Mary went in front 7-3 on a I7yard pass from Rozantz to Gray Oliver on the second play after an ECU punt from its own 10.

The Pirates went back in front on a 2-yard scamper by Jimmy Southerland that capped an eight- play, 44-yard drive set up by Steve 3 7 7 0-17 7 7 7 0-21 East Carolina William Mary ECU-FG Creech WfcM-Oliver 18 pass from Hozantz (Ll- bassi kick! Ferguson ran 26 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns and Marks hit 10 of 19 passes for 115 yards and two more scores as the Tigers, ranked fourth in the nation in Division III, closed out a 9-1 regular season and won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title. Hampden-Sydney finished 4-00 in the ODAC to 2-1-1 for de- fending champion RandolphMacon, which wound up 4-5-1 overall. Ferguson, who already had set school season records for scoring and rushing and a career rushing record even though he's just a junior, pushed his season's rushing total to 1,395 yards. He scored on runs of 24 and 5 yards.

Marks threw 25 yards to Ben Newell and 11 yards to Jay White, and Scott Moorehead contributed an 85-yard punt return as the Tigers ran up a 35-0 lead before letting the Jackets get on the boards. Sub quarterback Butch Butler hit five of seven passes, including a 10-yard scoring strike to Phil Trabulsy, in an ll-play, 76-yard drive in the final quarter and took the Jackets to the one late in the game before a fumble stopped the threat. The Jackets' Mike Woolfolk was limited to 50 yards on 15 carries.
