Visitation will be noon until 1 Galesburg police chief gets apology By Caroline Porter QUAD-CITY TIMES GALESBURG, 111. Producers of NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries" have apologized to Galesburg Police Chief John Schlaf for referring calls on a recent show to a private investigator instead of the Galesburg Police Department. Following an interview with Galesburg private investigator Mike Turnquist, a call from the Quad-City Ti'mesprompted Chief Schlaf to call the show's producers. The Sept. 29 "Unsolved Mysteries" included a segment about the death of 23-year-old Danny Williams, who was found shot in his Galesburg home on June 30, 1991.

Within a month, Galesburg police, the pathologist who performed the autopsy and a clinical psychologist all concluded Danny Williams probably committed suicide. But Danny's father, Larry Williams of Knoxville, is convinced Danny was murdered. Other experts in criminal investigation and pathology have publicly supported his conclusion. The department has maintained from the beginning, if any new evidence comes to light we are committed to act," Chief Schlaf said. "I told the show's producers that it was our impression the calls would be forwarded to us.

They said they regretted the error and would send us a record of the Turnquist and the show have received more than 60 calls. Schlaf said his department received four phone calls offering no new information. Turnquist is the second private investigator to be hired by Williams and has worked on the case for two years. "We've gotten a good response, very specific information. We are hearing names we've suspected as possibilities for over two years," Turnquist said.

"They come back constantly, over and over." Turnquist said the Galesburg police Department has done nothing with the case for two years and says they've not followed up on tests for powder burns on the victim's hands. i But Schlaf says such testing is inconclusive. "The chemical tests react to other elements on the skin, such as tobacco and urine," he said. Friends and relatives told police that Danny was depressed, twice threatened to commit suicide, had recently broken up with his girlfriend and had problems with alcohol and drugs. Larry Williams said Danny had been in fights, had some enemies and had been threatened.

He, Turnquist and several laboratories contend a second blood type was found at the scene indicating another person was injured in the same incident. Turnquist said he hopes to shed some light on the case in 30 days. 4 In Loving Memory Of FLOYD T. MARTIN Who passed away October 17, 1989. Sadly missed by wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
