JL vtbte -o- Task Force to Meeds Here coDnomic A federal task force will arrive here soon to help Weber-Davis leaders explore avenues for economic assistance through the Defense Department Office of Economic Adjustment Sen Frank Mess D-Utah said the task force will be sent to Ogden following a Defense Department decision that the two counties qualify for assistance as a result of cutbacks at Hill Air Force Base and Defense Depot Ogden The senator said the task force will consist of representatives of various federal agencies including agriculture labor HEW and HUD Sen Moss said it is uncertain what form the economic assistance might take but probably will involve priority consideration by the agencies for grants and long term loans to encourage industrial developments The Office of Economic Adjustment made an initial survey of the local economic situation last summer These officials met with commanders of the two military installations Weber County Industrial Bureau chamber of commerce and Employment Security Office representatives The task force expected to arrive within a few weeks is expected to meet with these same people as well as government leaders in the two county areas Industrial Bureau Manager Nathan Mazer said he anticipates the federal officials will outline to the local area the types of programs available through the various federal agencies assist us in preparing to take advantage of them In announcing that the two-county area qualifies for the assistance a spokesman for Sen Moss said that last month the senator had rejected an initial Defense Department finding that no assistance was necessary to the area Sen Moss had asked for a reconsideration of that finding Sen Moss requested the assistance two years ago reporting more than 4000
