Coal has been discoveied on the new opened of Pierre, and is being devoloped. EVERY other State the Union has at least one large city, and wny should not South Dakota produce one? She will, and there can be no question but that Pierre is to be to this new State what Denver is to Colorada. Carpenter. An eminent physician says: "The curability of drunkenness becomes a question of the application of scientific measures and means to conduct or assist back to health again. The condition to treat that of progressive brain and nerve exhaustation, lowered vitality.with damaged and perverted functual activities. Enthusiastic appeals to the emotional powers and will are not curative, because the emotions and will are diseased; the higher moral faculties are perverted and cannot act normally. Th drunkard has been switched off the main line of healthy life and living upon a side-track of progressive dissolution, the opposite of evolution." One of the great difficulties curing the drunkard of his disease is to convince him that he stands in need of help.

Little by little the disease fastens itself upon a man so that he is never willing to recognize his true condition, and he is never willing to help himself or to be helped by others. Who among our friends are willing to be called a drunkard or a slave to strong drink? Man boasts of his will power: "lean take it or leave it but man's will power, when his body and mind are enslaved by the demon of drink is as helpless and weak a.3 a willow tree in the path of a cyclone. One thing is sure, the drunk-aid must be helped by b'13 friends, left to himself, the end is brielly told a drunkard's grave. Upon those who have drunken relatives and friends a grave responsibility rests when the virtues of llaine's Golden Sjweifie are brought to their notice. This remedy in the hands of the drunkard's friend, administrated in his tea, coffee or food, will effectively do the work.

A wife writes: "I received the package of Golden Specific some time since and 1 am now giving it to my husband who is a hard drinker. He does not know he is taking it. Have heard him say several times since taking it that he is getting that he does not care for whisky for which I have to thank God and the Golden Specific Company." Mother, wife, sister, it is not necessary that your son, husband or brother thould go to a sanitarium to die, while within your reach is an infallible remedy, guaranteed to cure. Write Golden Specific Cincinnati, for particulars. Ladle who Sew or do housework will find "Leauhelle On.

The suspended pitcher Rhines says he is not compelled to play ball for a livelihood, as his father is well to do, operating three sawmills at Ridge way, Pa. John M. Ward, who is one of the most observant ball players in the country, says that, so far this season, he has noticed a better attendance and healthier interest in the game than has been the case for a long time. President Frank Robinson, of the Cleveland elub, says that in deference to the wishes of the club's constituents the Clevelands wjjl play no more Sunday games, canceling three of their engagements.

Capt. Comiskey has intimated that ho will shortly sign Jack Dolan. The probabilities are that Jack Do lan, the Newport cyclone, who was released by Washington, will be a colonel in the near future. Manager Chapman has made him an offer and he will probably accept it. Dolan at the begin ning of the season was oca of the best pitehers in the league.

President N. E. Young sayst "Anson and Galvin are living witnesses of the good results of temperance In all things. They are as valuable to-day as they were a dozen years ago. 'Phenomena have arisen, dazzled the public for a brief season by their brilliancy, but in a few short months they have outlived their usefulness and faded away." The franchiso in the Western Base ball league held by St.

Paul has been transferred to Fort Wayne on account of the unsatisfactory financial arrange ments made by St. Paul. FortYvayne will take tho St. Panl club as it r.tands and play the dates of tho Milwaukee club, while the latter club will play the games scheduled to St. PauL The Peoria baseball club has been transferred to Aurora.

The Peoria officers, by mismanagement, ran short of funds, and when called upon by Secretary McCaull for league dues they were unable to raise the necessary money. They were given a couple of days to consider the matter and then decided to pull out, although the Peoria sports are worked up over the transfer. The Aurora officials have raised Aurora will hold Teoria's percentage and the same players. THE LATEST SCHEDULE. Plan of Operation of the New Michigan- Wisconsin League.

The sitrninsr of Pitcher Haddock by Brooklyn for $3,250 brings to a close a curious and laughable incident wmcn grew from the flgfct between the league and the association last fall.

At the close of the season Ward went to Bos ton and met Haddock in the United States hotel. After some talk terms were agreed on and naddock signed a contract fori $3,850. The next morning he called at the hotel and asked to see the contract, saying there were some clauses in it he did not understand. When Ward handed it to him he thrust it in his pocket and ran out of le hotel When the league and association settled their differences Haddock was assigned to Brooklyn and was offered a contract for $3,250, which he refused to sign. He has finally succumbed.

His trick cost him $600. A Crowning Misfortune. Excited Individual-Omcer, I've been robbed.
