Tabor, June 22. Mrs. Thurman Hirst, aged 25, wife of a farmer living near here, yesterday undertook to hurry the tjp in her kitchen stove with oil. An explosion and fire resulted, which destroyed the home and contents, burned her nine-month-old babe to a crisp and turned all the clothing from lJrs. Hirst's body excepting the bands to her undergarments.

(Special.) The members of the Catholic Order of Foresters initiated a class of seven candidates into their order Sunday. In the morning the candidates and members of the order attended the high mass at St. Mary's church. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon the work of initiating was under the supervision of the local degree team, assisted by fellow members and who put on the work in a very creditable manner. At 6:30 at the St.

Mary's hall a-banquet was Berved to the Foresters and their ladies by the ladies of the parish. This was followed by an address by Rev. B. Jacobmeier, pastor of the congregation. Rev.

J. Wade, and Mayor George W. Koontz. Diphtheria Takes Quickly. Harry Fackler, the 5-year-old son of Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Fackler, died this morning after a day's illness of diphtheria. The funeral was held this afternoon. Senior Law Exams. Des Moines June 22.

In the meantime considerable speculation has been aroused at the capitol as, to just who is boss in the commonwealth during the absence of the chief executive at the Panama-Pacific exposition. Pioneer lawmakers failed to make provision for such an emergency in the constitution by direct rule and no legislature has regarded it as of enough importance to cover the point by statute. Nashua, June 22 The annual picnic at the Little Brown church in the Vale was attended by the boosters, who were taken to the church in automobiles by the business men of Nashue. The boosters took up a collection for the church and raised $25. After the picnic dinner a program was given and the Fifty-third Regiment band played. One of the guests of honor was John Heald, aged 80, of Waterloo, who Is the only surviving person who helped to build the church 51 years ago, 4JMIBE Louis Huber, a Mt. Joy farmer, may be held on a charge of assault and battery.

If not a more serious one, as a 'result of the beating said to have been administered by him to his wife last week. The struggle in which Mrs. Huber was seriously hurt took place last Thursday night at the Huber home near Mt. Joy. Huber, who is a prominent stockman of that section, came home and soon afterward differences arose between him and the woman.

At the end of the period of domestic wrangling it was necessary to convey Mrs. Huber to the county hospital. It Is said her injuries, while not of an entirely serious nature, will nevertheless confine her to the hospital or at least to her home for several days. Huber also sustained a bruised and battered face. Sometime afterward Mrs.

Huber said she would not prosecute her husband.
